Napple Tale Question [RESOLVED]

Post by Nana »

Hey all. I saw some reports that Napple Tale doesn't work with "regular" boot discs, and I was wondering if anyone could confirm whether they had one it did work with. I do not want to mod my dreamcast. I'm really interested in this game, but I of course don't want to drop the cash on it if I won't actually be able to play it on my dreamcast.

Answer is yes, Napple Tale works with DC-X bootdisc. Thanks flip!

And my other question was for Moon: Remix RPG Adventure. This is one game that I've wanted to play more than almost anything else for quite some time now, but the lack of a translation and my poor Japanese ability has been keeping me away. I see that there is a semi-translation available in the form of a walkthrough, here: http://www.gamefaqs.com/ps/573238-moon/faqs/50336

Has anyone perhaps used this, and if so, would it be an enjoyable way to play through the game? I don't want to spoil anything by just reading it to see the quality first, so I was hoping someone else might have already tried, or perhaps is more familiar with the game in general.

Thanks for reading.

Re: Napple Tale with a boot disc? && Moon (PS1) question

I found Moon enjoyable even without a translation, but I'm weird that way. A translation patch has been worked on since late 2011 and one of the translators on the project confirmed it to be alive and progressing last June, so you might wanna wait for that. Supposedly, they're done with the text and are now working on the hacking part.

Thanks for the response. I am familiar with the translation project, but the updates are so infrequent (years at a time) that I figure I'll know enough Japanese to play the game properly by the time it's finished anyway.

Of course, I guarantee the translation will come out the day I finish the game regardless, but that's just how these things work.

Don't know if this helps, but I have played a selfbooting burned CD-R of Napple Tale with no problems.

CD games are always region free for the DC, so it doesn't necessarily say anything about whether or not the game is playable with boot disk. it does say, however, that if you couldn't manage to boot it with a boot disk, you could still play it burned, but that is somewhat damaging to the DC unless you're using high quality CD-Rs. There are a few different boot disks you can try, though, so even if it doesn't work with one it might work with another.

EDIT: You might want to ask about it on some Dreamcast-specific message board. I'm sure DC-Talk, for example, has someone who could test this for you with the original GD-ROM

Thanks for the help LordHypnos, I'll give them a shot later today.

I'm just surprised there's no answer easily available out there for how popular of a game this is. If it turns out that I can't run it without playing a burned version, then I'll probably just buy the soundtrack instead so I can have something official from it. And what a soundtrack, too!

Hey Nana, i own Napple Tale and played it through on my PAL Dreamcast using the DC-X boot disc. I have yet to find an import game this disc doesn't boot.
