my current route has me starting on Airstrip and then trying to fight the Airstrip boss without losing a slave.

And then not getting trolled by formation changes from the third slave icon in Forest

i need a new route

Lol, yes, perhaps this is not the best stgt to start off with. But I'm still interested in what the next couple of weeks will bring. I expect even more butt hurt.

It wouldn't be an STGT (especially a TRP-STGT) without butthurt over game selection.

Personally, I'm looking forward to Sol Divide week. And if it's not there, I bet trap has at least considered it... :)

Watching a superplay is like the first thing you usually do, especially when it comes to STGT where you only have one week. Everybody knows all the secrets of RF already, they are not secrets anymore.
I actually didn't look at any replays during the tournament we just finished until after the round was over.

Since I've already 1cced this though and scoring is secret heavy, I'm definitely using them for this. Found a bit of secrets on my own before but I wonder how people figured out shit like painting the plane for medals unless they had a guide out back then.

How to play RF:
-Find out what you have to do

Bullets in this game are way faster than I remember.

Is rank controlled by the number of slaves you have?

True. Judgement spear is good. The best ship in the game imo. Makes the game very fun. The speed of Dangun Feveron

Also true: You can get a decent score with any ship. You won't get beat because of your ship selection, you'll get beat because others are practicing the game.

Unless I'm mistaken and you are trying to break the World Record this week?

Right... after a bit of time away from the internet due to silly workloads (sorry to my teammates for my absence in prepping the team and getting hyped) I'm here and ready to do battle.

Great choice of game Trap15! And delighted that the 360 port is OK (I will, of course, set difficulty to 'arcade'!).

Team Nice Try Fighter are doing for your scores! We might not be that good, but we're coming for them anyway!

Alright maggots it's story time.

I just had the best stages 1&2 of any run yet. I was feeling rather confident going into the battleship fight. I'd got almost halfway through it without losing a ship..

..then I start thinking about this one time back in early 2009 when I'd gone to a comedy show in some bar called La Havana and some fucking (unfunny) moron was heckling a decent standup comedian and everyone in the room including myself was too much of a pussy to tell the guy to shut up. The comic himself obviously wasn't that practiced in dealing with morons either and he kinda choked up there on stage. As the memory replayed I'm choking in the game and lose my entire run on the battleship by flying directly at snipers to try and seal them and getting point-blanked. Or just getting hit.

I'd like to know what and why pushed the play button on that memory and why it was in HD. Look what happens without spadgy's stern leadership!

oh well, carry on.

If you trigger the 10k/100k medals, then you'll keep them, even if you lose a slave. The 100k medals only reset to 10k if you allow one to drop off the screen (and there are no other medals still on screen).

Raiden Fighters series isn't like the Raizing stuff. if even one medal falls off the stage, your chain is lost and no way to save it, and you go right back down to 10,000 medals. You'd still get 100,000 from any 100,000 medals on screen, but it won't save your chain. It's one of the things I prefer in this series over the Raizing stuff.

Just imagine yourself being in an arcade, you are a lone shmupper, with no one to tell you the arbitrary bat shit insane Miclus/fairy system that is in effect. I know people hate chaining in DDP, but atleast you know how score works, the whole fairy thing just doesnt register for me. I've come to the conclusion that this whole game is a cheat code.

To use a good ship, cheat code. To use a slave of the good ship, cheat code. To score (i.e. fairies and miclus), cheat code. Autofire? cheat code. Random stages and Stage select? Cheat code. I'm surprised we aren't allowed to use game genie with this game.

And that's what scoring is in this game. No one could dare argue against it. It's arbitrary secrets that defy logic, that you are forced to find online, just like cheats. Things like "float here for several seconds" or "paint this ship with your ship". Reminds me of when I'd scour gaming magazines for some cheats. Also reminds me of that whole "ride the tornado" thing in castlevania simon's quest that the AVGN covered.

I'm hoping for space invaders next. Only that could cleanse the dirty fairy sluttery of RF. Oh, and one last note, I think Gun Dogs is a more fitting title for this game. Seibu shouldn't have changed it.
I know what you're saying. Secrets can be really annoying at first... but once you have them memorized it's just "a part of the game" if you know what I mean. So the problem ceases to be a problem once you've played the game enough.

I have a pretty poor memory but I feel like it's not so hard to memorize the micluses and fairies in this game. On the other hand I'm struggling with remembering all the sudden appearances of big planes. Definitely something to work on...

Hi Chum, yeah my experience has been fairy similar. It's not so bad after a couple of runs. I can see why people like this game, I find it very fun, but what annoys me about the secrets is that you can't just pick things up and break it down in your head to come up with a plan. I know DDP chaining can get pretty hard, but part of the fun is figuring it out (i suck at chaining anyway). Or take ikaruga for example, it sets everything out for the player, all the mechanics are explained, you can pick it up, and start solving the puzzles that are contained within. My gripe is with the philosophy of RF's game design.

People get upset when you talk about one of their favourite games. Gaming as all art is subjective, so though it's not for me personally, seeing the response of the members here, proves that there are dedicated raiden fighters fans.

Right now, I'm having problems, mostly with the medaling aspect of this game. I only recently googled it to get a better idea of how it works, I'd been playing it without understanding how medals work. I found this gamefaqs post to be helpful in explaining things in detail and with clarity http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/944128-r ... s/49453661

Not sure if I'm done with it yet, I might play it just a little more.

From what I've gleaned from palying this game, slave ships have a huge impact on rank and especially bullet speed. I may be wrong though.
