Turn off the in-game music. Put Benny Hill Theme/Yakety Sax on endless loop. Restart stage 1 forever.

It's the only way to play.

Thank you, I'd seen your link and it was very helpful. I didnt understand it properly the first time, and it felt like the medal system still needed a bit more explaining. The gamefaqs post sets things a little bit clearer for those that are slow to grasp the whole medal thing like me.

LOL, I was doing this earlier today. Granted it wasn't Benny Hill, it was some jazzy stuff I found on spotify, it's amazing how much pressure game music can add. Guile theme would go really well with stage 1 imo

Only the first time you load it up. It won't do it after that.

  • 1. Press F10 to turn throttling off, then go make a sandwich.

It's going to be awful hard to learn this game's junk in a week and get a ranking score. Other teammates I'm going to have to lean on you for this week. Or maybe not! I might "git gud."

Did some research for this forum STGT since 2006-13.
Any specific reason for not a single DonPachi game appear in the line-up?

Back to RF, seems like Judge Spear is the one I enjoy most. Don't actually want to use Slaves, not kinda legit way to enjoy the game to me :D
3rd Strike is the best fighting game.

Despite being widely, but not completely regarded as one of the best examples of the genre, it's awful scoring system brings many people to a frothing rage.

I personally think it's amazing DESPITE chaining, not because of it.

Great choice for a first week!
I hope you keep it up with games that have actual scoring systems. :)

you don't really have to learn anything

just learn where the micluses are in stage 1/2/3, get x-medals, and scrub the rest of the game

that will probably get you 30m at least

I'm going out of town momentarily, I won't be back until Sunday. I will attempt to post the next game name at the correct time, but I will keep the score submissions running until I get home. I won't end it early, so get your scores in before the listed deadline for guaranteed acceptance!

Another note: I AM enforcing the replay rule! Top 3 player scores will be required to send me replays or BE DISQUALIFIED. RFA players should upload their replays to XBL. PCB players should try to find some method of capture, but in worst case a picture of your PCB with a timestamp (written on paper or whatever you want) and a picture of your score. Thanks!

Don't learn anything.

Get a friend to look up all the secrets and stand next to you giving instructions, like a rally navigator.

pahahah. I've seen something similar attempted at shmupmeets, except it's one flustered newbie and about 3 people yelling. It doesn't end well..

I've got some of my greatest scores with just that kind of help down the arcade. Smraedis is a particularly great co-pilot, and I've had similar help from mulletgeezer, ravid and kaede.

And I've barked advice to Blinge playing Progear and really screwed over his game!

When I try playing back replays, the screen that tells me to update RF comes up instead, no matter what the JP1 dipswitch is set to. Is there a way to fix this?

I just tried it out; saved an .inp file and played it back with no problems. Were you trying to record something when playing it for the first time? The countdown thing should only happen once.

I started recording replays a few sessions after I had completed the update. I get this result with every replay I've recorded, no matter what the JP1 dipswitch is set to.
I tried starting from scratch; here are the steps I just went through:

I deleted the NVRAM, let the game update, switched JP1 to "On", then I closed Shmupmame. Afterwards, I started RF and recorded input: there was no countdown; the game immediately started. When I played back the .inp, I was greeted by the screen that I presume says to switch JP1 to "Update".

This is driving me insane.

Edit: This only happens to me on Shmupmame; it works when I use MameUI. Has anybody else played back RF replays on Shmupmame?

This game has some crazy rank going on. As soon as you start getting together a decent medal value, the enemies start firing much sooner, much faster, and with more dangerous patterns. What a pain >_<.
