My favourite stage was when the update counter hit 800 and the dreadful thought that savestates might not work with this started haunting my mind.

No problem there. The update sequence saves a change to NVRAM which you won't have to bother with. In fact you should often be able to copy the updated NVRAM across MAME versions.

Depends what the "J" stands for. If it's RDFT (J as in japanese version), then yes, if it is RDFTJ (J as in Jet), then no. Just wanna put that out there for anyone that was as confused as I was in the beginning.

Both versions of RFA are based on the Japanese version, so you're fine with it. Just make sure the difficulty is set to Arcade and not one of the others.
