I'm picturing the driving scene from The Castle of Cagliostro...

According to a friend, the 1st of May is a public holiday in France, which might make finding food a bit difficult. Feel free to correct me if you know better.
Do they sell much at the exhibition hall? PCB's or anything?

Can't wait to see you fellows play. Wish I was decent enough at something to do a run.

I'm guessing you've got a jap PS2, but if not I'm happy to bring some PAL PS2 shmups over for downtime.
Lordstar wrote: I would love to print a shmups goes to stunfest tee though for the people going :D
Did you decide to come Lordstar? I'd love to buy some of your shirts; I dont have anything special to wear for this illustrious event!

The kebab shop around the corner will be open
Last year there were a couple of stalls selling X360 games like Under Defeat and the Shooter DVD with GaijinPunch in it.

Don't worry, every fast food restaurant should be opened (sandwiches, burgers, pizzas, sushis, etc.) as DEL was suggesting. However, if you need anything else, it might be difficult to find a store opened.

Those getting the train together Thursday.... what time and where shall we meet in London? Was going to make it PMs, but it might be simpler here. Though I'll shoot a PM too, so people are notified.

We should be leaving London at 12.25 on Thursday, so ideally we should be meeting at St. Pancras International at least an hour before that, or more, just in case there's issues with the check-in - and I expect there to be given the amount of electronic equipment some of us will be carrying. I would personally say 10am at St. Pancras so we can get tickets, checked-in, and through customs.

I've also heard that there may be a Tube strike, so the earlier we meet up the better.

Got some euros (or is it oros?) to spend in France now.
Yeah I'd aim to get there for 9:30-10am just in case on the Thursday. Tube strike ends tomorrow at 9pm, which just before when I'll be getting there tomorrow.

Regarding my PS2, I'll just bring one of my spare PAL PS2s with a harddrive inside, and that has pretty much all games installed on it. I don't have a power adapter to convert it to the france plug for it, only got one that goes the other way around.

Also it's my birthday today!

Ha ha! Oh no! That's it. I'm bringing a suitcase full of pot noodles.
I've seen a documentary called 100 yen with Gaijin Punch and Clover TAC in it. Their contribution was easily the best but completely sidelined by Brian Ashcraft's inane warblings.

A ps2 with games installed sounds like something I need....

I'm missing out on getting pizza at work due to being away!
It's going to be so amazing, I remember hearing how last years was, and now it's finally coming around again.

Thanks Icarus and JWS, yeah the PS2 is rather useful, no idea if I'll be using it any other time during the trip.

10am at St. Pancras International it is! Particular spot? I don't know the station too well, but it's an easy bus ride from mine.

By the way, I've got nothing to take in terms of sticks, consoles, games etc. If it makes it easier for anybody else, can I bring a stick or something?

On that note, I've not done Eurostar before. Are they fairly tight on luggage and allowances, or more chilled than planes (for example, skateboards are not allowed on planes as hand luggage, so have to go in a bag in hold.). Obviously I'm not hoping for nuanced advice on skateboards, but really this; are you limited to one small bag, 100ml liquid bottle etc?

EDIT: And thanks re the tickets DEL! Hopefully CHI is the same with our train tickets.

I went to Stunfest last year with my clothes in one holdall, and my Macbook, iPad and assorted bits in a messenger bag. As long as it's not explosive, I don't think they particularly care.
In terms of liquids, I just take travel-sized bottles, just in case. You're not planning on modelling for L'oreal, are you? :D
That said, the do swab the devices to check for any suspicious combustible materials, so make sure you have your bag unlocked for easy access when we check-in, to speed things up. Which is why we're meeting up at least two hours early, to ensure we get through check-in with no problems. The journey back will be considerably easier.

With my gorgeous locks? Of course. I'm just gonna be safe and treat it like a plane trip. I'm lucky to have has so many overseas work trips over time, I've become all too familiar with speeding up that process. No belts on me!

But I'm gonna gamble on taking my skateboard. I hate visiting another city without the chance to have a quick roll about.

Oh... and on swabs. I once to my PS3 Virtua Stick to San Francisco as it was during STGT. Brought it on as hand luggage, in my back. The nest of wires within the stick caused so much concern they popped the thing through a scanner about three times. They were actually enthusiastic to hear about arcade culture, but were so confused that somebody would travel with a stick, they seemed convinced it must have been something other. I quite enjoyed all the attention my stick got. Would have liked a print of the X-rays.

My stick is cheap, twitchy, and loose. Can't be showing that in public.

I love the idea of you rolling around Stunfest on your skateboard and post office bag. :)

We could run a late night shmup meet in a hotel room? Since I'm coming empty handed you're all welcome at mine. Its a double room. Come and enjoy some stick action.
Yeah. That sounds weird now Ive written it....

Not a word of a lie; that's basically my tool for meeting people at industry conferences. And now, if I don;t have one or both on me, I'm either not recognised or greeted with grand disappointment!

EDIT: Deleted meeting point note. See next post!

Right - CHI just called me, and as he is the man with the train ticket collection stuff, he has asked if we could all meet at the Eurostar ticket collection area.

So, ignore all previous (now deleted) comments about meeting outside Foyles. We are not meeting outside Foyles.

We meet at the Eurostar ticket place at 10am.

SORTIE!

Yes indeed ALFARABI. The pressure to perform brought out my ST2-4 Boss run on Friday night (225mil), but the pressure also caused me to be waaaay too nervous on the Big Stage for a good scoring run. As purely a Demo though, it went well enough.
Cheers & see you in Paris soon.
