Just played NES/Fami Crisis Force

Post by Dylan1CC »

Just played through the first stage and all I can say is WOW, why on earth was this not brought to the U.S. it is beautiful. It's like Konami took Aleste and made it slightly more epic. Plus, there is a part in the first stage where the city street opens up with little enemies zooming below with parallax, looks a lot like the canyon from MUSHA.

Anyways I am playing this on my PSP using Nester and I like it so much so far I am gonna buckle down and buy a fami-NES converter and hunt this down. Is it a normal fami cart or disc?

Between Nester and an episode of MST3K I downloaded into my system, my PSP is gonna keep me busy on the car ride to my friends' house this weekend. 8)

Oh yeah! when I saw the ground open and the beeming lasers hitting the city my jaw dropped to the floor.

It's amazing what Konami (companies) could do with the good ole nes, once they mastered the consoles artitexture.

Shame they never brought it over, but then they never brought Gradius 2 either. And then there's all their watered-down PCBs -- Xexex, Thunder Cross, Lightning Fighters. Konami was confused.... :?

Anyway, Crisis Force is really good fun, I agree. I would have been all over this game if it had been released way back when. I'm pretty certain that it was a cart and not a disc, but I'm not positive. Good luck tracking it down. :) I'll stick with the emu myself, but it would be cool to have a real copy.

Yeah I am actually on an NES shmup kick right now. I also have Gradius and 1943 in my PSP plus am bidding on Gun Nac and Guardian Legend. Also, I am fighting the stage 2 boss and it is a big statue head that attacks you after you blow up a bunch of bricks, surely some Compile devs worked on this?

Bearing in mind I never played the arcade rev so I have no idea what that is like.

Edit: I also like how the ship mode change works really well in situations where you need it, such as rear shot when enemies start to appear behind you and on the aforementioned boss you can use side-firing lazers which are handy since he zigs back and forth on the screen.

And I just got to stage 3, amazing, this time the parallax takes up most of the playing field, how often do you see something like that in an NES game?

Bearing in mind I never played the arcade rev so I have no idea what that is like.

Edit: I also like how the game gives you power ups in situations where you need them, such as rear shot when enemies start to appear behind you and on the aforementioned boss you are given side-firing lazers which are handy since he zigs back and forth on the screen.

And I just got to stage 3, amazing, this time the parallax takes up most of the playing field, how often do you see something like that in an NES game?
I never knew there was an arcade rev myself.

The thing is Crisis Force should out, and that was when I was on a emu/rom binge afew months back(while I was coming back to console games) so that says alot Crisis Force standing out for me.

Yeah That stage 2 is very compileish with the diagonal and straight blocks and lines (or whatever you want to call them)

Yeah it's a shame about either games not brought over or watered down.

Bah, for some reason I got the game mixed up with Lightning Fighters/Trigon since both are Konami vert shooters, lame mistake I know.

An arcade rev. of Crisis Force? There was no such thing surely? I was convinced it was a NES exclusive. Or are we talking about something else?

OK, I am flying through the stage 3 canyon fighting a mid boss which is behind me as I use my tail gun while trying not to run into blocks, some shades of Radiant Silvergun here.

I've only managed to play it to the start of the third level

Do, this stage is incredible.

Also, while we are on the subject of scrolling, Bucky O'Hare has good parallax too.

Don't worry so much whether a game is disk or cart; there are few shooters for the Famicom Disk System. (Though those that are there are quite good.) I can only think off-hand of Halley Wars, Gyruss, Falsion, Gun.Smoke, Zanad, and..... <eurghh> Gall Force.

let's say: "It's amazing what Konami could do with famicom by adding a CO-CPU to the cart which boosts up famicoms graphicpower."

No really.....it has custom chip(s) which was also the reason it never saw daylight in US.It would have been way to expensive(for Konami or for customers).

oh ,and I guess it's safe to say that there isn't a disk version.

Gall Force? What is it like? I only knew Gall Force on MSX, and it indeed is a shmup. (With 120 ships no less, more than R-Type final! :D)

Glad that you discovered this 8-bit shmup classic Dylan! :D The actual Famicom cart actually isn't outrageously expensive, either.

I forgot that they could produce add-on to the carts

I think that calling the Fami's/NES' memory mappers CPUs is stretching it a bit. They're just glorified bank-switchers with perhaps added circuitry for IRQ timing. It's just a bunch of logic chips and timers, basically.

I'd like to know too, and also about Falsion-looks like Gradius with an After Burner perspective.

And how does Halley Wars compare to the Game Gear port??

I would like to know how Zanad compares to Zanac. ;) Seriously, I'm wondering how the Famicom Halley Wars is too. I would also like to know about the differences between the disc Zanac and the cart Zanac.

Well this site:

http://www.askalee.com/fc_gamephoto/fds ... hoto_h.htm

which takes a little while to load, has two screenshots of Halley Wars for the Famicom Disk System. Definately looks at least more graphically advanced then the Game Gear port.

The only thing you'll miss on emu is the 3rd stage boss; he gets scrambled quite badly.
