I'm not sure if an old guy with a banjo is better or worse than a giant green dildo spaceship.

Wikipedia wrote:Phalanx is infamous for the incongruous box art in its American release: it displays a bearded, elderly man dressed in overalls, wearing a fedora and playing a banjo while a futuristic spaceship flies in the background. The popular media site IGN named it their fifth "Most Awesome Cover" in a top 25 countdown on their website.

The box art designers later admitted that they had deliberately chosen this theme in order to attract the customer with something original, considering there were many space shooters in the market that looked alike.

Now that is one serious dildoship.

edit: Still not as * A W E S O M E L Y * phallic as the Versis from Assault Suits Valken, though, which kicks off the game by ramming itself engines-deep into the enemy colony before discharging its load of armoured soldiers and withdrawing. What did I just witness. You just know these are the same rascals who gave the world Gynoug Dickman and MENS BEAM!

Nostradamus might have been rightly-praised as one of the best title screens ever, but it can't compete against Gummy Joe telling youngsters around the campfire of his youthful space adventures in the HMS Dildo Verde.

I like that they had to tag on " ... IN SPACE", just in case hyper-speed shoot-outs might be occurring elsewhere.

What a letdown that game was. Why didn't SNES have any good shooters?

At least there's a difficulty mode called "FUNNY". I'm not sure if this is really easy, or really hard?

Nostradamus didn't predict the ass kicking whirlwind that is Pharmer Bob.

Therefore, it's Pharmer Bob or bust. Old guy... you clowns.

If you don't think Pocky and Rocky or R-Type III as good, I will have to direct a similar question towards your taste!
(to be fair, PnR might be decried by purists as not a 'real' shooter - to that, I point to its inclusion in the high-score forum!)

Ah ok, I'll give you R-Type III, that was indeed quite good.

Was it the sprite-handling capabilities? Slowdown in UN Squadron was atrocious ...

Only in the US/EU version, with its shitty licensed 2FLAVOR4U soundtrack. JP version has some nice Zuntata-esque weirdpop, eccentric and moody yet compulsive. Actually I wonder if its composer was the same mysterious fellow behind Megablast's OST, the tone and arrangement is strikingly similar.

I'm going with Pharmer Bob. Nostradamus is just too vague. He couldn't even get Hitler's name right.

Look at Nostradamus, taking a sly look at the painter's package. The guy's a sex machine and you know it.

I didn't expect that to be as sexual as it was. Wow.

Much as I like Nostradamus, Pharmer Bob (a term I like to think I coined) is simply too iconic, and has even less to do with his game than ol' Michel does.

Yeah, this poll ain't gonna be accurate at all if people don't know what their voting for. Some will vote for their fave game, some their fave old man, some for the phalic ship, etc.

Personally I voted for which one had the better logo. True story.

for one, these two seem almost evenly matched, a mere 2 vote difference.

G-Darius. Love R-Type Delta but G-Darius has the creation of new lives, which is more than Delta can ever hope for.
