Raiden V (Not an announcement)

Post by Furry Fox Jet Pilot »

I have been wondering for quite a while now, when or if Raiden V will be announced, because I haven't heard anything from Moss about a new Raiden game in a long time. It's been 6 years since Raiden IV was released, and I really hope they haven't abandoned the series. What do you guys think?

I agree also, but hopefully it's all new, original music, not just remixes of Raiden II tracks (Don't get me wrong, the ones in Raiden IV were awesome), but I really liked completely new tracks such as Stage 1 ( A Stormy Front) and Stage 2 (Can't Retrace).

It would have the potential to be better than Raiden 5 if it had a scoring system and multiple courses like Raiden DX, which brings me to my next question: Why hasn't any other Raiden game followed the perfect example of DX and had multiple courses, and such an elaborate scoring system?

Because making that much work in a game takes time and resources, and these days developers are unlikely to sell enough copies of a shooter to make that effort worthwhile.

Unfortunately, I suppose that's true.

Well, I'm still behind in the Raiden series. Haven't got the hardware to play any of the Raiden Fighter games, or Raiden IV so for me it's not a big deal. Yet.

All of the Raiden Fighters games are on MAME for PC or RF Aces for Xbox 360. Raiden IV is also on Xbox 360 and it can also be played on PC through a Taito Type X loader or as a set of standalone files.

The official PC release might not be as good as the 360 version, but if you don't emulate, it's still a valid option. And WAY better than not playing RF at all (and it's cheap anway).

Except it's still emulation, and furthermore, it's a shit emulation at that.

Next purchase after my computer case is going to a J360 and Raiden Fighters Aces + Raiden IV, methinks.

If I ever get a J360 RFA will be my first purchase (and justification) for it.

The official PC release comes with ROMs that you can use with MAME.

Have you actually gotten Legacy's ROMs to work? Last time I looked at it it was split into more pieces than MAME's ROMs for those sets have. If it's just a rename thing though I could easily make a batch file to "convert" them, and then at least Raiden Legacy would be a "buy for the license, but play the ROMs in MAME instead" deal.

I also forgot to mention that I emailed MOSS asking them the same thing, but I have not received a reply yet.
