Karous: the Beast of Re: Eden for 3DS
Re: Karous: the Beast of Re: Eden for 3DS
WTH apparently Klon has been around for a long time and developped "Predator" for the NES.
Re: Karous: the Beast of Re: Eden for 3DS
I think that might have been a different company that just happened to use the same name for a while actually.
Of course, that's just an opinion.

But they are both japanese companies, that Predator game actually came in Japan first and only months later in the US.MathU wrote:I think that might have been a different company that just happened to use the same name for a while actually.
Re: Karous: the Beast of Re: Eden for 3DS
The Klon that made Famicom Predator definitely isn't the same company. It was their only credited game under that name.

Alright! Some new information via Siliconera (where do they dig up this stuff!?)

Re: Karous: the Beast of Re: Eden for 3DS
I really hope this ends up having some sort of full-playthrough mode or something. I had an impossible time getting into Bangai-O Spirits with its lack of progression structure and I hope this isn't done similarly.
Of course, that's just an opinion.

majik : The official website provides most of the data Siliconera reported on, and I guess they search for news in Japanese media such as Famitsu or Dengeki Online. But that said, this article doesn't reveal much that we didn't already know, yet is a good reminder of the game's release.
MathU : A full-run mode would be awesome, but I unfortunately think it will be closer to Bangai-O Spirits, even for the weapon selection where you can customise your ship. I am not aginst such a structure as I had a blast with Bangai-O Spirits, but the downside is that you end up not replaying the least interesting/easiest missions and only focus on the best ones, thus having very little replay-value on a big part of the game.
The number and the name of the tracks on the bonus pre-order CD have also been revealed.

Re: Karous: the Beast of Re: Eden for 3DS
This sounds like it will be the 3DS' equivalent of Ketsui Death Label.
Re: Karous: the Beast of Re: Eden for 3DS
I hope it won't be as difficult and costly to get in a few years, though.
By the way, khdn's soundcloud has been updated to include a sample of the 4 tracks available on the pre-order bonus CD.
However, they got rid of 24/7 -affair with you- which is a great remix of an already outstanding track...

The Radirgy port is 2014/2/19. This is unexpected. You'd think they'd wait to see how Karous sold first.

According to Siliconera the new Radirgy is being called a "defense shooting game"...wasn't there a "don't let enemies past you" mode in the 360 port of Noa? Sounds like this could be a stand-alone version of that.

It sounds that the game is going to be some kind of training mode if what states siliconera is true.BulletMagnet wrote:Brief preview of Karous.

Mission based or like the Dc version???
・15 hours to clear, 20 for good ending, 100 hours of replay value
・High difficulty, easy to upgrade your weapons
・Each mission time is short, tempo is fast
・Strategic element to selecting your weapon for the mission
・Enemies don't really change much
・Enemies and background bleed into each other and it's hard to see
・Storytelling in game is weak
・When lots of enemies are on-screen, game slows down

Re: Karous: the Beast of Re: Eden for 3DS
So... It doesn't an "arcade"/full-playthrough mode?
Of course, that's just an opinion.

Re: Karous: the Beast of Re: Eden for 3DS
This game has the least pre-release info of any game I've ever seen.
Let me try to compile the info I have:
Release Date: 1/23
Platform: 3DS
Streetpass Features: Yes (Image exchange)
Game overview: Mission mode with over 100 missions. You select your weapon and level it up in an RPG-esque way.
Flash bomb before leveling up.
Flash bomb after leveling up.
Normal sword.
Charged sword.
Weapon choice is critical to clearing some missions. You choose your ship type and weapon at the "Garage" screen and then start missions. Missions have conditions like "kill the boss only" or "kill 100 enemies with your sword".
There is apparently no arcade/full-play through mode according to the official site.
The game has achievements.
It also has some "Timeline" feature which integrates comments that fans sent the dev team.
15 hours to clear, 20 for good ending, 100 hours of replay value.
No videos.
There is a 4gamer article I found on the game which has a few more screenshots:
http://www.4gamer.net/games/236/G023678/20131226114/
Really though there is just nothing out there about this game. And they're releasing it next Thursday! Good luck with that.

Re: Karous: the Beast of Re: Eden for 3DS
Very disappointing. I would have taken a straight up port of Karous without any of this new stuff over this.
I don't know why some Japanese developers seem intent on pushing the smart phone format of quick and disposable minigames onto real handheld game machines. The DS had plenty proper full arcade-style games like Contra 4, Metal Slug 7, Space Invaders Extreme, etc. You can always make a contiguous game with the option for stage select or whatever for the people who only want to play in five-minute bursts.

Re: Karous: the Beast of Re: Eden for 3DS
While the lack of an arcade mode is disappointing, what I fear the most are these level-up mechanics and mission objectives.
In Bangai-O Spirits, a game with a similar structure, you could choose your weapon before playing a stage, but you always had to destroy a few targets and your weapons keep the same power from a stage to another. Therefore, you could play the stages in any order without worrying about being underpowered and have a blast by shooting everything.
Here, with the level-up, the easier missions will be rendered obsolete and too easy after the weapons have reached a high level, just like RPG low-level monsters are easy-peasy to defeat in the late-game. The mission objectives could also make some stages not very fun because they restrain you in what you can do. They might work well with an appropriate stage-design but the few examples listed here do not seem very promising, and the level-up mechanics can also be used to artificially overcome the difficulty of some of these missions.
I won't be able to play the game because of the damn region lock but I hope our fears turn out to be exaggerated. Well, at worst, we can still enjoy the awesome music from khdn.
