Just tap button 2 without holding any directions... It'll flip your "options." Tapping 1+2 seems to change the speed of your ship a little, but I cannot confirm that XD

no it's area number. stage-area. when you die, you go back to the checkpoint at the beginning of your area.

my japanese is .. nonexistent.. but from reading on wikipedia it's seems your description is what's relevant, and autofire was probably messing that up for me..

i think you do more damage when in 'slow' mode, but am not sure..
as a note, the speedchange isn't 'abit' it's quite alot.. (and you also get an animation switching)

Really enjoying this one, but it gets really rough right away in stage 4. I have no idea how to approach it at the moment. Also seriously fuck death checkpoints... But at least you aren't as screwed by them as you are in Gradius...

Maybe I should just milk the last part of stage 3. No-miss until stage 4. Those seeker shots from stage 2 make the first part of stage 4 very easy, but then it starts to scroll backward and all hell breaks loose.
