Recording MAME gameplay w/ filters?

Post by Bonus! »

[Note to moderators: I wasn't quite sure whether to put this post into "chat" or "off topic", so please move if inappropriate.]

I'd like to record some MAME gameplay, but it doesn't seem to be possible to record it with filters enabled. The AVI file MAME produces shows the game in the native resolution. I couldn't find anything on how to record with filters enabled.

Thus, I was wondering whether anyone knows about a good way to add filters when converting the files. Ideally, I'd love to convert my gameplay recordings to 1080p, with a nice filter applied, similar to how the games look like when I play them in MAME.

Just record it with Fraps or Playclaw or some other program instead of using MAME's capture function.

The question is... Why would you want to sully a nice video with some hideous filter?
Of course, that's just an opinion.

I just happen to like scanlines. Can't help it. ;)

ciox,
I'm on Linux and OS X, but it seems there are apps similar to Fraps on OS X, so this might be an option. Thanks!

You could post-process the file with some video editing tool.
I for one would keep it raw, in its native resolution (provided the proportions are correct), then watched it windowed, but that's just me.
