DUX 1.5 replacement SCAM ????

Post by carlal8989 »

So I sent money to hucastgames for a replacement disc of DUX 1.5

A month and a half later I email them, and ask them where my game is?

They respond, " Looks like your order was lost in mail. We do not have any replacement discs left though sorry. " (their words exactly)

and I see on their website they say they have it in stock.....

anyone have this issue with them? it sounds like a scam to me !!!!!!!!!!

their website is.... hucastgames.wordpress.com

I will keep you updated, if they actually fix this issue with me, and refund me the money.... sad to say this about a niche company, but niche or not, if they screw their customers like this, people need to know ! I actually enjoy playing shooters, and supporting indie developers, but them stealing my money, and not sending me the game is unacceptable.

Yes mine came quickly.

Perhaps yours was lost in the mail, and perhaps they have run out of disks.

and judging from their email, they have no intention of mailing me the game, just saying "oops, it got lost"

I guess they used some super cheap mailing method to not even get a customs number in order to save money. You never send something of value without getting a recorded number. That would be full retard. You never go full retard.

The one they have for sale on the site is a little different as it comes with a case, manual, etc. The replacement disc was just that, a disc. You only had to pay for shipping I assume. That's what I did. It's not a scam it was just lost in the mail as they said. It was only a few bucks for shipping but you could ask for a refund if you're that upset about it.

The replacement disc was a short term thing, when they'd done with the allocated replacements that was it. You were only supposed to pay postage, so that can surely be claimed back... assuming no-one has a shittier postal service than the UK, you can claim lost in the post refunds up to a certain value. The seller would do that and refund you in the meantime.

What's on the website is the full package. The replacement disc was disc only, so they're not ripping you off.

Safe assumption.

I'm not religious, but I find myself praying every time I have something of value passing through RoyalFails hands.

I never had any problem with RoyalMail, in fact it's probably been one of the most reliable services for me.

In fairness to HuCast, I had a damaged first retail 1.5 disc (crunched in the mail) and wrote them a NICELY worded email, I was sent a new one immediately. Perhaps instead of rushing to a forum to declare SCAM in big capital letters and bad mouth a company that for all intents and purposes has a good track record, you could reply to them FIRST and ask for help or a solution.

I did email them first, and try to work on a solution with them. First they said they had the game in stock when I sent them the payment, so I clarified that prior to sending payment. Then a month and a half later when I informed them that I did not receive anything, they just said "lost, sorry".... No mention of refund for shipping or anything. So then I had to go contest the payment with PAYPAL, and only after that, did they refund me the shipping costs.

My issue is that they are probably keeping a lot of people's money whom don't dispute their claims to have items "lost in the mail"
My second issue is that their wording in the emails, implied that they could care less there was a issue with the order to begin with.

Basically I just received really poor customer service, and had to fight to get my shipping back.
They also said in their emails that they didn't have the game in stock period, and when I checked
the site, they showed it was in stock (I know, I know the full packaged version vs the replacement disk version)
which they stated in their emails, they didn't have at all.

You have no issue with them "keeping a lot of people's money" because the odds are 99% of the postage made it to their destinations. You act like every mailing they sent was lost so they are raking in the cash. Not the case. I've ordered from them 3 times (4 if you count a replacement for a crushed case) and each one made it without issue.

Secondly, you paid for SHIPPING. You didn't get shafted out of $50 or $60. If indeed they shipped your free disc to you and it was lost in the mail, then they did what they were supposed to do. COULD they word it differently and maybe offer you the pocket change back? Sure but again, it's not like you've been scammed. I'm willing to bet you DIDN'T email them asking nicely for a shipping refund and went straight to the Paypal dispute, the same way you came right here to rant about them. When I received a broken case/game from them last month, they responded with "Sorry to hear this..", that was it. I responded back with "Is there any chance of a replacement? I'm a big fan and would hate to miss out on the game"....and I got a "Of course, we will ship today...".....which they did. You are dealing with people who's first language I believe isn't English so communication is a little stunted.

Not belittling your problem here because it sucks but I just think you are attacking a pretty solid set of guys over a few dollars. There is no "SCAM"...

Hold on, before you have a shout at this guy I just want to add something here...

I was picked as one of the three winners in their facebook competition for liking the page. I got the same reply when I sent them a polite message just asking if it had actually been sent.

"Sorry, it must have gotten lost in the mail" - I offered to pay postage which he kindly accepted and it arrived within a few days. This is actually within the last 30 days. Two complaints of "lost in mail"? This doesn't strike you as even /slightly/ worth raising your eyebrow even a millimeter over?

I'm not going to start shouting SCAM!!! (seriously dude, c'mon - that's a bit off) - I have no idea what their postal service is like. I'm not accusing anyone of anything and I'd like to think I've been around this forum long enough now to not be dismissed as someone making waves for the sake of it - but this is now two occasions I know of where copies of Hucast products have "gotten lost in the mail".

One more thing regarding the whole "SCAM!!!" thing you're shouting about.. yes it's a very niche market and I am hoping to soon be in the same position as Hucast - selling physical copies of my own stuff and this will include international shipping. Rancor has even offered to help with this (bless him) - but the reliability of postal services doing this as a sole trader/small business has me a little worried. It's really not in small developers interests to start scamming people in a community as small as this. Best to be straight up about things.

Untraceable international mail is a crapshoot.

This thread is exactly why I don't play the "ship it cheap and mark it down" game that so many international buyers ask for. As soon as it goes missing you're a scammer.

It boggles my mind that anyone wouldn't pay the extra 10-15 bucks for UPS/FedEx/Purolator shipping and get an actual tracking # and insurance on what's shipped. It's unlikely you'd ever import something so cheap that it wouldn't be worth it, especially when we're talking international.

From Hucast FB @31th May 2013:
Dear Customers,

since some orders got lost in mail recently we'll send all future orders as registered mail w/ Tracking ID.

This means that shipping cost will increase by 2 Euros for international shipping and shipping within Germany.

Thanks for your understanding.

*************************************

Liebe Kunden,

to give everyone a update, so I emailed Hucast Games at the end of June, and they write

"From: Hucast Games <info@hucast.net>
Date: June 22, 2013, 7:56:35 AM PDT
To: Carl XXXXXXXXXX <srviverXXXX@aol.com>
Subject: Re: DUX 1.0 replacement

Your free revision disc just came back today. I can re-send if you give me your corret shipping address."

I emailed them the address, and I still have not received anything !

At this point, I think they are just lying to me. I can believe the first time the post office "returned" the item, but
it seems like a flat out lie now that they are saying the shipped it out a second time and now it's been two months
since that last email.

The german post is full of thieves!
2 "letters" were lost in the last 6 month on the way to me. One of them was a Snow Bros cartdrige shipped from within Germany.
Since then I ask every shipment to be registered or insured, because otherwise chances are 50/50 that it will not arrive.
