I'm not even gonna ask how you knew that pile of junk would have stuff you wanted in it

I'm also kind of jealous of the lack of ground cover at this time of year...ice and snow here :(

That Duran Duran cover is beautiful. Spooky too, at the same time, but still beautiful!

Alright, I thought I had a hunch on the Beatles thing, but I was wrong.

Google reports the title is Indonesian for "Pop World Revolution." Just plugging those words into Google gave a bunch of Indonesian hits, so it makes sense. Did Atlantic Records really have a presence there?

Fun things you can find in an international city!

I like how you label everything nobody really wants to own as "rare".

Hoarding is only half the problem - buying things under the impression they are worth the money can be a sink. What good is it saying "this record is worth $30, so it covers the entire purchase" when everything else is junk?

LPs don't take up that much space, and there actually are some with good resale potential in there. I would have skipped most of the popular / 80s stuff, and some of the older obscurities, but maybe rob likes listening to them. Collision in Black, Head Hunters, and the ELO are all probably worth picking up for resale. Some others might be too. I think only the Blue Mitchell would be worth it even for a semi-busy person, but many of the others getting $10+ if you're lucky wouldn't be. Time + shipping worries + etc. all take a chunk out of profits.

Looking at eBay I'm kind of surprised how CDs for some things are worth money and not others. Like the Madonna record - it's "borderline" if the LP is worth the trouble (eBay prices clocking in around $10) but if you can find the CD with the dance remix and Like a Virgin, that's worth picking up.

Myself, I don't ever bother looking at music stuff - it's too easy to sink money into on the mistaken impression that you've got money. Soundtracks are more likely to be a good deal, but it's still possible to get stuck with stinkers - though I'd definitely not mind finding The Serpent and the Rainbow. Same thing for the toys; I'm not sure if the 70s are going to start being the threshhold for big bank any time soon. Really old toys (tin, 30s and earlier) definitely are, but those really are rare as hell and you won't likely find them just wandering around.

Yeah, I don't get what's up with taking those. I could probably find any number of similar discs for cents each within miles of any point in North America.

Really ?
With the internet, there's an interest in anything and everything ! 8)

Used Psych and Jazz Records in the 80s and 90s would sell for a quarter or less.. and most were trashed.
Now some of them are worth thousands because they are now rare.

thanks

Those are in hands of real collectors. If you find them for sale, they wont be cheap - unless you come across an old person at their house who has no idea of value. Those American picker guys seem to look for old people all the time and then rip them off !

"thanks." You really showed me!

You're talking about a budget Walmart-like compilation (not an album by an artist) which you describe now as "rare," which it clearly isn't. Big difference between something common current day and the unseen future. By your logic this thing is going to appreciate in value by like 500% in another 10 years since it's already so "rare." Those records sold for next to nothing before the internet, before all this knowledge was spread about and in a time when there was a drastic change in media. That CD is already 20 years old and nobody wants it for a reason. Hell, if you would have just posted the thing I wouldn't have said anything, but you act like you've got something to prove to showboat this stuff in multiple threads to let us know what great deals you find about your esoteric collectibles. Find me in 10 years and if it's worth more than 10 bucks I'll buy it and stick it down my throat to show how wrong I was.

Huh, I actually owned a Tonka crane that looked identical to that one when I was a kid.

I wasn't born until '86, so I don't think it could have been the same model? Still, looked identical, even had the string to hold the bucket shut.

(I also had that exact dump truck)

Personally I find the Tonka stuff to be really cool. I don't know anything about it but I could see that stuff maybe being worth something some day. Regardless, they are neat.
