Turning off autocentering in MAME?

Is there any way to turn off the analog autocentering in MAME on games like Space Harrier? I really hate it.

If you are playing with any digital pad, I believe it will always autocenter if no direction is pressed.

You could try to set the autocenter speed to 0 in the analog controls menu (hit TAB while in game).

Weird, I tried it in an older MAME and it didn't work, but in a newer version it does...
