Why Do Several People Here Use Pre-Teen Anime Girl Avatars?

I really don't get it. It's something you'd expect to see on 4chan, not a shmups forum. Obviously the people who use those avatars are not themselves pre-teen girls but mostly male adults. Drachenherz brought it up in another thread, saying that it's latent pedophilia.
Do people use these avatars because they are attracted to underage girls? Because they secretly feel like prepubescent girls? Or because they would like to be little girls?
I, too find it disturbing and I think this loli shit doesn't belong here (or anywhere else; yes, that includes Cave's games).
