While Raizing did have the highest ranked game, adding all the scores from their top 25 gives Raizing about 18 points, whereas Cave comes in just over 40.ciox wrote:Probably Raizing would win the poll, have a look at this: http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=44687

Kakusei in Espgaluda is literally this.beermat wrote:Are there any shmups where the player can manipulate time? My 1CCs so I can find the list easier myself

Leiria's a freeware game that basically uses Kakusei as its scoring mechanic. In hard mode it gets crazier and turns more into Espgaluda 2 with revenge bullets everywhere, making it more like the Zesshikai mechanic.

Hey in the Saturn version of Battle Garegga how do I move the position of the options. I see that it is mapped to C button but for some reason i can't get them to move. I'm most probably being a tard. I play on Normal level and tried hard but still they don't move.

No I'm using the regular ships and it still seems not to work. Perhaps I'm expecting too much. What do they do exactly? Just move position right?

Re: Shmup Related Questions That Don't Deserve a Thread
Is there any way in MAME to automatically count and show the credits you've used during a given playthrough?
I do it manually right now but it's a bit distracting and disrupts one's flow when one has to be mindful of the number of credits that have been used.

Re: Shmup Related Questions That Don't Deserve a Thread
When a Cave game is "black label" --- what exactly does that mean?
Re: Shmup Related Questions That Don't Deserve a Thread
It's just an arcade (except espgaluda 2 bl which is console only) rerelease of the original game with changed gameplay/features. Some of them play quite different from the originals whereas some are more similar. They're usually less gimmicky and more "complete" or polished then an arrange mode often found on the console releases.heisenbergman wrote:When a Cave game is "black label" --- what exactly does that mean?

DOJ Black Label was just a patch in general - made the second loop not bullshit hard and fixed the hyper gauge glitch
after that black labels are usually easier games with more "extreme" scoring

Re: Shmup Related Questions That Don't Deserve a Thread
A lot of shmups use the ones digit to show how many continues you've used. In that case, you can tell just by looking at the ones digit (unless you've used over 9 continues, in which case the ones digit will still be at 9).heisenbergman wrote:Is there any way in MAME to automatically count and show the credits you've used during a given playthrough?

I've been playing Garegga these past couple of days, and twice now the game has rebooted while I'm bombing the birds in stage 2. However, the music continues to play. (I'm not sure how long it goes on; I just reset and start a new game.)
Is this a MAME bug or did this happen on the PCB as well?

Does Fire Barrel have checkpoints disabled or enabled by default? There's an option in the dip menu but I'm never sure if MAME's default is right.

There are no differences between DDP regions. The consensus seems to be that any reported differences were due to RNG, rather than changes to the game system.

are free-scrolling games such as, for example, Sinistar, even shmups?

wait... DoDonPachi II is not a Cave title? Is it in any way related to Cave's DoDonPachi series? And is it any good?
Ah thanks!CStarFlare wrote:http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?t=17716

Re: Shmup Related Questions That Don't Deserve a Thread
Its not a Cave title, it was made by IGS (I believe to test their hardware for the upcoming DOJ, Ketsui, and Galuda, which were released on IGS's PGM hardware, but I'm not certain).
It uses a lot of stuff from Dodonpachi, with a little bit of its own flair in there. Its not as tight as most Cave shooters, but it is definitely fun in its own way.

They can be - see Ark Area, Nova 2001 - maybe Thunder Force II's overhead sections at a stretch (certainly the regular stages make it a shmup).GradiusuiraD wrote:are free-scrolling games such as, for example, Sinistar, even shmups?

Re: Shmup Related Questions That Don't Deserve a Thread
If I downloaded an INP file which was recorded using shmupmame 2.2, do I also have to play it back using the exact same mame build and version?
Because I downloaded an INP recorded with shmupmame 2.2 and I can't play it back using shmupmame42ui_64bit

^ On that note, is there some sort of "Dummies guide to recording INPs"?
I've never really attempted it, but I would like to start archiving some of my plays, and have no idea where to start.

Seconded. I've always wondered the best way to record a demo, like do I restart the recording when starting a new credit?dunpeal2064 wrote:^ On that note, is there some sort of "Dummies guide to recording INPs"?

They are on this forum. I don't really get into personal definitions of what are and are not schmups, but Bosconian, Fantasy Zone and even Granada are perfectly on-topic here. Contra, Space Harrier and Star Fox aren't. FOR GOOD REASON <-- cue flamewar. ;]GradiusuiraD wrote:are free-scrolling games such as, for example, Sinistar, even shmups?
