I recently read somewhere that certain non-vga games on the DC can be played using the DC-X disc. Quite a revelation for someone who's had the DC since the UK launch and the DC-X almost as long.
Anyway, I tried Gunbird 2 (today actually) and it looks bloody great in tate on my Samsung monitor but I'd like to know whether the timings are knackered given I'm playing a UK game on a UK DC via VGA on a 60hz monitor?
Thanks.

Re: Dreamcast Gunbird 2 UK VGA
I've faked GunBird 2 out before to get it to display in VGA, but there's a lot wrong with it: More slowdown, and the scaling effects in later stages cause sprites to jump around. I'm guessing the PAL version will have the same problems...

Yes I noticed the slow down but was not sure whether it appeared in the game anayway. Not noticed the sprite jumping.

Something to try.
Some of the bigger commercial displays can do the 15khz mode through VGA. I have a Philips BSD4622v monitor that displays it fine in 15khz through VGA.
I'm using a KURO VGA box.
Another monitor, NEC multisync V321 does display the image, but it's stretched, unplayable. I guess it's a hit and miss.

Re: Dreamcast Gunbird 2 UK VGA
For me my NTSC-J DC Gunbird 2 is in the "don't bother forcing VGA" category because of all the issues. 240p -> TORO -> XRGB-mini seems to be the ideal setup. Apparently the NTSC-U version doesn't support RGB though. I was a bit surprised when this review claimed that the NTSC-J version didn't support RGB - I don't recall running into any roadblocks (see also http://retrorgb.com/dreamcast.html).

Yeah, the Venice water level slows down like a motha. Just to clarify, I'm not running it in 31Khz. I'm running it in 15khz without the slowdown, just using the VGA cableHydrogLox wrote:For me my NTSC-J DC Gunbird 2 is in the "don't bother forcing VGA" category
15khz VGA, theoretically shouldn't be possible. Yet some displays seem to support it fine.
