Ah man, sad to hear. Sounds like he had a decent run. One hell of a career at any rate, one of those guys that's just been around forever if you're familiar with British film and television.

Suzanne Somers on Sunday, age 77. That leaves only Joyce DeWiit, and the guy who played Larry as the only ones left from Three's Company.

Richard Roundtree, 81, brief battle with pancreatic cancer. Hell of a life, handsome to the end, rest well sir. 3;

Iconic as Shaft, but I also remember him most fondly in Q: The Winged Serpent, batshit crazy giant monster X cop flick. Also star of my dream Manhattan 24 Bunsho remake! Image Image
NOT SAFE FOR WESTERN AUDIENCE DESU (◎w◎;)

Aw man... I guess the 2019 movie was the last time we'll ever see his iconic role, then. But what a badass role he went out on.

Apparently Piper Laurie bit the dust within the last week, or week and a half, most remember her as the crazed mother in the original Carrie movie. I believe she was 91 years old.

As for Richard Roundtree, the man called Shaft, he was a bad mutha.... SHUT YO MOUTH. Gotta say though, he oozed cool in the Shaft role.

Relived experiencing learning Brad McQuaid died, even though there's a post from me here mentioning it.

The consensus seems to be he killed himself or overdosed, just a month before his wife died of cancer. Some suggest the Pantheon scam was a way of getting funds for her medical bills.

If anyone ever took the time to try Vanguard, well... Like with Richard Gariott, some people were very blessed to get early into a market before there was any competition.

Matthew Perry from "Friends". Apparently drowned in his hot tub at home. He was 54.

I believe that "drowning" was not said to be the cause. It appears to be something in the realm of "misadventure," but the DAs office has said it will take a long time to establish more precisely. There is even a very outside chance that foul play came into it to where they are still investigating

It's long when you're not overweight. Carrying that weight around in those later years takes its toll.

Damn! Those guys were fucking legends. Such crazy worlds for kids to let their imaginations go wild. Was always partial to Sigmund and the Seamonsters.

Worth noting is that former first lady Rosalynn Carter passed away.

That's in the apocalypse thread about the apocalypse.

For some reason someone started a standalone COVID thread one year, which withered away like the brief, transient thing that it is. But things always revert to how they are: in the end, only oblivion endures.

Henry Kissinger is dead. Henry Kissinger will never die.

dang. I always thought he was going to die in the 90s but I guess it makes sense that he held on for a bit.

We had a whole category about Kissinger at my bar trivia night tonight. They didn't cover all of his most terrible contributions to mankind. My favorite is how he thwarted LBJs peace accords in Vietnam and purposefully extended the war for 7 years just to give some potential future cred to Nixon in East Asia. Well done

A wonderful example of how television shapes everything anyone knows. Any boomer that wasn't well-off knew multiple people who died in that meat blender. Their approval of all the parties responsible should be a big fat 0%, but here we are.

Even I didn't think Hillary Clinton was all that bad... right up until the first 2016 primary debate and she made sloppy kissy noises toward Kissinger. Lying about being able to enforce a "no fly zone" without also needing "boots on the ground" fundamentally broke something in me, forever. Guess I never had to take a hard look at democrats, until there was an alternative to voting in favor of the banks and more war all the time. Just accepted that we as a species were shit and doomed.

Their legacy will be in the final mop ups, resulting in near complete worldwide hegemony of their empire.

I guess it makes sense that some AI company becoming the corporation from the movie Wal-E would be so appealing to me. It would be awful, but a different kind of awful to the collapse we face otherwise.

God do I love those Davos meetings. The most beautiful climate apocalypse videos money can produce, while they sit there going "Gee, this problem we caused sure is going to be bad. Hope somebody does something to fix it!" (Proceeds to black out the sky like in the Matrix movies.)

Twas inevitable. What were they going to do: ban cars and electricity???

Totally. Though I wouldn't underestimate the power of Nixon-cum-Regan's religious strategies. I can't tell you how many died-in-wool 1980s southern baptists I know who swear by every word and don't examine a single one. And Hilary bleh bleh bleh bleh. I knew the dems were doomed the second they put her smarmy ass on the ticket. It's really that boomer generation, they just can't seem to peel themselves away from the spectacle unfolding on the tube. I've had to watch the boomer in my family glued to Racheal Maddow and her constant vitriol, and all so damn unhealthy. It's not going to change anything to sit around getting worked up about stuff on TV, but I guess they'd rather shorten their lives than feel disconnected. It's no wonder that psychologists started considering TV a drug

It's spooky how they feel like these people are their friends, much moreso than anyone else in their lives. Such one-sided parasocial relationships with imaginary people that only exist in their heads. It's one thing to gloom onto a fictional character, another altogether to start imposing your fantasy as a basis for how reality should be shaped.

There was this one comment about this other guy's dad or whatever on the Something Awful forums, that's stuck with me forever. "FOX News talks to him more than you ever could."

LA coroner has officially called Matthew Perry's death. He overdosed on ketamine.

Damn it's actually really hard to do that. He must have been very, very deep into it that night
