When I was a kid I'd spend hours gaming. Now I'm too worried about the technical side to play stuff for long durations.

Although my 9" PVM looks gorgeous image wise...

It appears that the PVM 1440QM already has a scart port that could be handy!

Virtually the same barr the inputs. 40 has SCART as well as RGBS. 50 has RGBS and svideo.
and comparisons to the SONY PVM-14M2E ?
No SCART input on the M2E.

Is there any reason to get a Sony BVM20E1 over the BVM20f1?

On paper the E1 is even better than the F1, but I haven't seen any for sale yet (over here). They're very similar with the F1 spec'ed with 900 lines of resolution, while the E1 reaches 1000 lines and is supposedly the best tube Sony ever built. Even the still ultra expensive 32" HD BVM sets are only specified with 1000 lines, but with a much bigger & wider screen.

I am of the opinion that having so many verticle lines is silly.

I mean, you want to have 240 lines ideally.

the specified lines are meant vertical. They specify the size of a single RGB element on the aperture grill.

I've had both the 2U and the 4U – its hard to see the difference between the two with 240p content. They are both excellent.

To the untrained eye perhaps. ;) My 800 line set looks better (sharpness and clarity) than a 500 or 600 line set imo.

Is there some kind of list of all of the different Trinitron PVM & BVM models with specs? I looked around a little today and couldn't find one easily.

A good start is this catalogue: http://www.pmotions.com/Public/PDFs/SONY/Displ_00.pdf

It's from 2000, so it doesn't list some of the ultra-high-end 2002-2004 models and none of the older, larger PVMs, but a nice read nevertheless.

Maybe the 4U was better calibrated or just in better shape. I literally had two side by side and it was a nominal difference.

What channel am I supposed to use, or is there a way to change inputs. This thing is complicated! haha

I plugged in the BNC's to the corresponding "IN" colors.

Dunno what I'm doing lol

You can use any channel, but you have to assign the input you want to that channel (analogue/RGB/external sync for RGB or YUV with internal sync for component).

Yes, it's a bit complicated at first

And on the channels above 90 you'll find some test patterns.

no, sorry, it's not set up right now - don't have the space.

I have a SDI+YUV board sitting in the leftmost slot and the standard RGB/YUV board on the right. I have 75ohm termination plugs on all the output connectors. I'll set it next up when I get my new Dell LCD and I'll take some pictures then, since I want to use the output from the BVM into the XRGB-Mini+Dell to do a direct live comparison.

No problem thanks for all the tips Fudoh. Finally got my Super Nintendo and Saturn up and running. The picture quality is very nice. Just gotta hook up some speakers to this thing.

Sephiroth, are you using the monitor that had 100,000 hours? How do you feel about that? Does anyone know a mean time before failure figure on these CRT monitors?

Yea it has over 100k hours and the picture is still amazing. I have no idea when these things fail, seems like they last forever lol. I gotta bust open the front and see the date of manufacture. It's hard to believe this thing was running for over 10 years

So far I am extremely pleased with this CRT, amazing monitor really. The only complaint I have is still some slight shakiness. It's not very noticeable when you are playing but it is a bit bothersome. I'm not sure if it's because of my setup or the fact that this thing has been used to death.

I've tested it with both my Super Nintendo/N64 via SCART--->Sync Strike--->VGA to BNC

Any ideas?

Thanks

What exact model did you buy? I decided to pick up a BVM-20E1U. I wanted a D series, but they are a bit too expensive.. I have a SNES, Saturn, and a RGB N64, so I will test to see if I run into that problem.

SONY BVM-20F1U, the same one Fudoh originally posted about, just the American model.

can you try a component source (PS2, XBox, Cube...) just to be sure it's not a sync/RGB processing problem ?

I got my BVM today. It has such an incredible picture. I didn't know a CRT could look this good. So far the only flickering that I come across is certain title screens. The title screens for the Sega Saturn Resident Evil, and Radiant Silvergun flicker. There hasn't been any flickering in the option menus, and playing the game.

What you see is interlaced flicker, that's normal for every CRT.

How much did you pay for the E1 ? Hours on it ?

$250 with free shipping, and 64,525 operation hours. I was worried at first, but this monitor is very crisp and vibrant. I want to take some photos of various games, but it is very difficult. I need to spend some time to find and read the manual.

Update: The TV has been emitting a high pitch noise ever since it was on. Is it normal? Does anyone know what is happening?
