Earthing a Japanese cab in the US

Post by gabe »

My cab seems to have a pre-existing auxiliary earth ground. I'd like to wire it to work with a three prong grounded US outlet. In my elementary understanding of electricity, this would add a bit of safety if properly executed.

My idea is to replace the current electrical cord with a three prong American cord, using wire nuts to connect black to hot, white to neutral, and green to ground. Is my logic sound, and should the end result be safe? Why or why not? See pics for further explanation.

According to Rikaichan, アース translates to "earth; (electrical) ground."

You're good. That ground peg on the panel door is a perfect spot to land your new ground. If you can get a crimp on ring terminal like the one that is currently landing on the ground peg, that would be the ideal way to do it. You can get a 10 pack of those for like $2. There's a specific crimper for them, but in a pinch use a pair of pliers and crunch them down to make your connection.
