Does this have any extra stages in it that the original doesn't have? If not, then what makes it a "Special Version"?

GAME THEORY has had that thing forever...

I'm not sure if it's the same as Gunhed Takai though, which I believe is a boss rush version of Gunhed..

Yip. It's a card for the Caravan shooting tournament. I don't think it has a boss rush though, I think it's two different timed score modes.

The game only exists as a loose card w/o a case, but the price in there is too high imo.

The title page just lists Hudson and Toho, but not Compile. :? What's up with that??

Gunhed isn't published officially by Compile, just Toho.
Blazing Lazers was published by Hudson.
