Last score, finally beat 500K (personal best). I got stuck with no speedups and couldn't make it though the last part fast enough to face the final boss. :(

You know, R-Type doesn't make your ship useless on spawn. Why not just give the "first" speedup + option as a freebie? No, that'd be too intelligent for Konami.
V-V was worse in this aspect IMO, atleast you can start with a lot of options here if you die with them, in V-V I chain died every time so I was forced to NM the game. Still this game is retarded as balls for not giving you a single fucking reward for 2ALLing it with lives remaining.

Ouch. Then again, considering the rest of this game's scoring 'quirks', doesn't surprise me much.

I find I only manage to no-miss all the way to 1-6 if I was lucky enough to snag a shield item for 1-5. You'd think such an important item wouldn't be so seemingly randomly dropped... gah.

BareknuckleRoo - 1,160,000 - 2-5 - JAA (MamePlus 0.106)

Had no extra lives from the middle of 2-2 onward (;_; stupidest deaths were at the very start of 1-6 and the midboss), got REALLY lucky to have made it that far thanks to a shield drop late in 2-3 and another shield at the start of 2-5. But my score's 100k lower than it should be because I missed the 2-1 bonus. Grr.

Hopefully I can improve before the end of today, but if not I'd be happy uploading this to youtube I guess.

Finally learned how to do the 100k bonus on stage 1 (park yourself under the Brain Golem and let the options do the dirty work). The hardest part IS trying to get two options to appear, though thankfully this is the first minute of the game.

I'm done, and I'm sorry I don't have a pic, I somehow toggled full screen mode in my excitement and it crashed everything, but I noted down the first few digits. The last 3 MSBs are probably higher than 000, but that's OK.

Wanted to 2-ALL this, with a better score (prior score was a 2-ALL but I didn't do any of the bonus strats or boss milk). In this run, I managed to do some of the bonus strats in and milked shit. Yes, it does piss me off that you get no bonus for 2-ALLing the game, so it really doesn't help too much in your score, so 2-ALLing this game doesn't mean much. My best advice is to focus on the bonus strats, and if you have 1M by 2-3 or 2-4 you are in decent shape.

Final boss is worth 100k, though you still get the 100k in case of double KO.

Yeah that's true, but I would say (for me at least), it was easier memorizing how to get the other bonuses than to rely on an additional 100k and dealing with that crazy bullet hell... However it makes no sense to hoard lives, ramming is a pretty good strat in many cases.
