Yes they are. For the incredible, mindboggling and wonderful plattform called M.A.M.E.

For Dragon Spirit you have:

Code: Select all

Sony PlayStation (1997, "Namco Museum Vol.5")
Sony PlayStation 2 (2005, "Namco Museum 50th Anniversary")
Microsoft XBOX (2005, "Namco Museum 50th Anniversary")
Nintendo GameCube (2005, "Namco Museum 50th Anniversary")
Microsoft XBOX 360 (2008, "Namco Museum Virtual Arcade")
Sony PlayStation 3 (2009, "Namco Museum Essentials")

PSX Namco Museum Encore for Saber

I believe both are available on Wii Virtual Console - Arcade (Japan only),
which are essentially emulations. However, Wii VC Arcade doesn't support tate AFAIK.

There's a port of Dragon Spirit on one of the PSP compilations (again Japan only),
but it is new version only. New version has modified player speed, removes the stage intro,
and some other details.

Bottom line, if you want to play a proper version, I think you have to get the PCB.

Namco Museum Vol.5 has a port of Dragon Spirit with both Old and New versions selectable. From comparisons to MAME a few years back I'd say it's a very close port, only missing a bit of slowdown at some points. Interestingly the vine section of the jungle stage seems to have had its PCB slowdown coded into the NMV5 version.

Ditto for Dragon Saber on Namco Museum Encore, which is Japan-only. Plays extremely close to MAME. You can even select the redone Dragon Spirit BGM with a code just like the PCB.

Both of these ports have full dip switch support as well as tate.

If you're emulating, you'd be better off playing the PC Engine versions using Ootake - feels more responsive than playing them in MAME.

Agree with BIL.
I believe the PS1 port is the best one, IIRC it even has TATE.

Is Dragon Saber New Version on Namco Museum Encore? I've only ever been able to find Old Version :/

As far as I know, it's only Dragon Spirit (first game) that had Old and New ROM revisions in the arcades. Have you heard differently for Dragon Saber? Would be news to me.

Maybe I've got the Old and New thing confused with Dragon Spirit but there's definitely another version of Saber that has checkpoints removed and remedies the enormous hitbox too. Could be a non-Japan revision I suppose.

The PC Engine version doesn't have the special NES modes, so there's nothing particularly compelling about it.

Sorry for the Necro Bump but I got into Dragon Saber heavily recently and wanted to try the PS1 Namco Museum Encore port. I figured out how to Tate the picture but it is turned clockwise instead of counter - clockwise :( . There is a "Flip" option that is set to "Off" but you can't change that setting to "On" :( Its my understanding that you change the screen flip with Dip Switch 5 = and here is the problem = with the Select Button I can go to the test screen / Dip Switch Settings but HOW in the hell are you actually change the Dip Switches in this menu ??? I can't figure it out = Im dumb :P = Help please :) .

Oh snap, that's a blast from the past right there :o Unfortunately, IIRC, the PS1 Museums flipping the wrong way was always considered a rare flaw in these otherwise sterling ports. I'll go look up some old posts I remember.

EDIT: yeah, according to Ghegs, that's just how they are. He maintained this a decade later (to me incidentally), so I'm guessing that holds true.

*cue X-Files theme* I want to believe there's some hyper-obscure solution to unstick that stubborn DIP. Cheat code? Preferably not a GameShark code ala NTSCU Raiden Project. Even NTSCJ Raiden Project, TATE-enabled, has Miclus in the manual warning you not to tilt rashly, lest your TV asplode. 3;

As some silver lining, Hamster found Jesus after the PS2 Thunder Cross fiasco, and have been on fine form the last decade. Image The usual caveats aside - they're HD display and digital only - ACA Spirit & Saber are exemplary work.
A Young Noob re PS1 Museums wrote:Game selection could've been a bit less nostalgia/novelty-leaning (where the F are Rolling Thunder 2, Metal Hawk and Phelios?) but the gems are just that.
Good news, young me! In our nightmare 2020s future, you have PS4 Metal Hawk and Phelios NoMisses! You'd have Rolling Thunder 2 as well, but that's a harder game and you're as lazy as ever.
Assault, Dragon Spirit, Dragon Saber, Baraduke, Galaxian/Galaga/Gaplus, Valkyrie, Pole Position and Rolling Thunder are a great set.
The Bloodborne Adaptor™ can play all these too! (◎w◎;)

Thanks @BIL for the information.
I just find it super weird / dumb to include the "Flip" option in the menu but you are not being able to change it.
According to the Arcade manual Dip Switch 5 can flip the sreen on the PCB:
https://www.arcade-museum.com/manuals-v ... gonsab.pdf

Thats why I thought it should be possible here as well. Well I thought wrong I guess :( .

Its just dumb = I would have to turn my Tate CRT as well as my vertical screen in the Egret 2 the other way around just for Dragon Saber.

If you have a MiSTer, its PSX core allows you to flip the screen IIRC.

Yes I have a Mister & Mistercade and I just tried it and it works perfectly.
Thank you.
