Okay, before anyone lynches me, please hear me out.
A while ago I heard that there was a Guwange blue label ROM running around... And that it was recovered from the Xbox 360 release of the game. I can't really find much information on this, but I'm guessing that the Guwange release for the 360 ran inside an emulator- so they had the original program ROM files sitting on-disk for the blue label version.
My question (before I get jabbed with a pitchfork) is this:
If I were to buy DDPDFK for the 360, or iPhone, or any other of the umpteen releases out there... Could I pull apart the game data and recover a similar set of ROM files, then hack those into MAME's forbidden SH3 emulator? Oh god, I think I see lanterns on the horizon.
I'm **NOT** asking to pirate anything here. This question could be so absurdly stupid that some of you have already burst out laughing, and I'm fine with that. I was just wondering if it was possible, because I'd love to have DDPDFK running in MAME for those horrendous business trips where all you've got is a laptop and an empty hotel room and 4 hours to kill. I have no problems buying a copy of the game if I can run it on my laptop, and the whole Guwange thing made me think that maybe it might be possible.
Of course I realize there's a 99.5% chance that CAVE would have simply recompiled the game to run natively and dumped the program ROM contents into various binary files that the primary executable reads in, in which case this wouldn't be possible at all. I was just wondering, and curiosity got the best of me so here I am typing this out and hoping someone doesn't put a brick through my window for asking.

DDP DFK MAME ROMs...
Re: DDP DFK MAME ROMs...
Simple answer no you cant Guwange blue was a stand alone case of just being a dumped rom running through an emulator to begin with all the proper releases however are not roms they are programmed for the 360 as you say at the end of your post . Also ddpdfk runs on a modified sh3 with more ram and the emulator at its point of discontinuation (publicly) has not been modified to run either ddpdfk or akai katana , it wouldnt take much to fix though to anyone who knows what theyre doing .

Re: DDP DFK MAME ROMs...
I recall asking if an Ibara SH-3 PCB could be upgraded to run DFK? Shmupper EOJ said that it wasn't possible due to upgraded SH-3 hardware + more RAM. Now you know the different SH-3 boards out there. So could a DFK PCB be downgraded to boot up as Ibara as a novelity/just for fun?
Having tried a visual comparision of my DFK 1.5 PCB placed alongside next to an SDOJ PCB, they both had the CV-1000 D label printed on both boards themselves. Fascinating but true.

All SH-3 ports are recompiled.

Yup, just noticed that.trap15 wrote:All SH-3 ports are recompiled.
I guess Guwange was a weird exception in that it was basically an emulated game with the ROM files inside the '360 XBLA package. Now that I think of it, I'm actually not surprised that CAVE didn't attempt to emulate the CV1000 hardware.

CV1000-D have twice more U1 RAM and U4 rom, in other - they are the same, just dont have a battery. so, I will not be surprised if B-boards can be upgraded resoldering U1 and U4 by chips used in D-boards (or similar).PC Engine Fan X! wrote:I recall asking if an Ibara SH-3 PCB could be upgraded to run DFK? but another question is protection will be the problem ? (if there are present any).
I think yes.PC Engine Fan X! wrote:So could a DFK PCB be downgraded to boot up as Ibara as a novelity/just for fun?

Re: DDP DFK MAME ROMs...
there's no protection, even SDOJ works fine
but anyway, as already said, no you can't extract roms from the ports, the ports aren't using emulation, the sh3 games have a more modern codebase, and the hardware is quite costly to emulate (remember even the current gen consoles are a few generations behind a current PC, and don't have the same level of raw CPU power)
