Metropolis Street Racer strategies (request)

Post by louisg »

Hey, I just picked this game back up and am looking for tips. The last time I played (around 2000), I don't remember having so much trouble beating the first chapter! I know you can drift for points, but that doesn't seem to get me enough Kudos. I average about from 80 to 120 kudos per event. Is this about as much as I can expect? Do I have to use a joker to finish a chapter? Is it worth betting that you'll do worse in an event so that you'll have more time to drift around, or is it better to ratchet it up to about your performance level?

I'd be curious to know what amount of Kudos people here have for each event in the first chapter.

Which car are you using? I found the MGF was sweet as for a good portion of the game. It handles well and is rated very poorly, so you get good kudos for average results and a shitload if you win races (not hard if you're not scared of some touring car driving).

Generally speaking, bring the required time down/placing up/passes up/etc.. That way, the game gives you more points when you beat the challenge. Once you practice a track a few times you should be able to blitz the default, so lower it right down. If you can do a clean event (don't lose kudos), you get a big bonus too. You can also get bonus kudos at the start of the next event if you cross the finish line sideways riding the brake (I can't remember if it works with regular brake, handbrake or both).

I only used jokers to maximise events I was awesome at or bump up my rating on an event to unlock something. You really don't need them half the time, so if you're struggling early on make sure you play them on an event you can usually score highly on.

Such a shame the races and championships use rubber-banding rather than AI (like the 1-on-1 events), because once I'd finished the game and unlocked everything, I didn't feel any desire to play again. Not even to ride the lawnmower :(
