I am looking for a quality monitor that "swivels". I don't have a size restriction, I just want to buy something that works with HDMI to play games on PC or Xbox 360. I have never purchased a yoko/tate switching monitor, so thanks for the help!
I still dont know how to tell if a certain monitor can be used in tate mode? Is that IPS? or something else?
I tried reading this: http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=41103
but nothing seems definitive to my level of newbness.
alternatively, what kind of stand could i buy that swivels?

IPS is the panel technology. IPS has much better viewing angles than TN panels.
The rotation function on PC monitors is called "pivot". Get a Dell U2312 (23" 16:9) or U2412 (24" 16:10"). Avoid the P models (P2312 and P2412).

-IPS
-16:10
-For the rotation : Pivot model or additional Ergotron arm .
(Personally , I use a Ergotron LCD arm with my old Dell 27" 16:10 IPS (no pivot on this model)) .

The Dell U2312 doesn't have an HDMI port. How can I use this with an Xbox?Fudoh wrote:IPS is the panel technology. IPS has much better viewing angles than TN panels.

HDMI and DVI-D are 100% compatible to each other.

I don't understand what that means that they compatible. How do I get the audio and video from an Xbox 360 to a monitor that only takes video (via DVI)?Fudoh wrote:HDMI and DVI-D are 100% compatible to each other.

what do you want to do with the audio signal in the monitor if the monitor doesn't have speakers ?
