Oh, wow. Looking forward to this. Hopefully it's got some zany enemy sprites and background replacements.

I doubt they changed much with the graphics other than the title screen but maybe.

You tease, Mr. Spork. :P

This will be interesting to see though. I'm guessing the Push 1/2 is basically what Garegga had anyway with the Type As and such but Push 3 for change plane? Sounds zany if there's anything to it other than unfinished text that doesn't actually show what it does in-game.

Is 'Melody' by any chance the same guys who did the 1945kIII or something else entirely?

Teasing myself too I guess, I don't have it running yet. The pcb was apparently a completely new manufactured boot board, not just a hacker making rom swaps on the original. The roms are different sizes than they are on the real board, so I can't just rename them, you have to make an entry for it in the source and compile. That isn't a pic I made myself. I don't know what all the changes are, maybe just what you guessed. I was hoping for more hardcore fire power and other types of tweaks but we'll have to wait and see. No idea who Melody was.

There was a Garegga Part 2 bootleg also discovered awhile ago, but was returned to the distributor, so no dump.

Why am I going to have to play this

WHY

Bonus points if it has less lag than official Baregga.

FWIW played briefly and nothing like Psikyo.

I'd heard that people were saying it was some sort of Garegga/Strikers hybrid - NOT!

Cheers,

Ralph.

Interesting. Thanks for the heads up.

From the forum thread that Dave_K. linked it seems like there was actual input/coin insertion issues too so if whoever does have hold of this actually get it properly working it'll be a bit of a discovery for all of us I suppose. This kind of newfound information/demonstrations is why I actually like reading Haze's posts even if I get a bit overreactive about some of the stuff he says.

That other pcb is unrelated. That was like 5 years ago and a different hack altogether and the pcb I'm sure was physically going faulty. If he would have dumped the roms they would have worked in emulators. They don't manufacture bootleg boards in quantity that have issues like that. They also aren't built to last. This 1945 Part 2 board was recently dumped by a Chinese dumper.

It's in the latest public source now but with minor graphics problems. It seems it just adds a button 3 that lets you scroll between player types, a very common addition for hacks. A is shot and B is bomb. I don't know if the rank has been altered.

Had a go at this.

I think the Rank may have been altered slightly but not sure. Everything was pretty shit-easy up till Stage 5 where it suddenly jacked up and I lost all my lives to the later parts of the stage and Black Heart.

The options are different too, they seem hardcoded to aim in the direction of enemies when you have one or two of them, and if you get three or four they actually point-blank enemies instead - of course the formations are nothing new but they just did this out of the box without me even trying to do any option unlock stuff. Furthermore, changing your ship with C does not change your ship speed as far as I can tell.

EDIT: There's (C) on top of the bombs which are like shields and let you take a couple of hits as well. And after managing to jack the rank up even faster this time around I'm having second thoughts on whether it's actually any different.

This is fast becoming my favourite version of Garegga now.

Hmm, I didn't know that about the C button. I'll check it out again.

It's the "©" icons above the bombs- was wondering what they did.
Loving this- it's like the Ibara Black Label of Garegga.

The C swap seems to give you a split second of invincibility but you have to time it perfectly as shown in the video.

Thanks for the vid. :D

Any chance that this hack could be played on a genuine Garegga PCB?

There is a chance if someone split the roms up correctly and it would probably take some hex comparing and hacking. It depends on how much someone would want it and their skills but it's possible.

I didn't notice any invincibility when switching ships but the (C)s will run out pretty quick if you're in a barrage of bullets (and if you're already invincible from using bombs it'll still take away one of the (C)s anyway).

The more I see of these screenshots and vid, the more I'm convinced this is the same bootleg encountered in that 2007 thread. Shame we don't have pics of the PCB any longer, but its clear it wasn't the same looking PCB - so no simple rom swap to try out in a real board.
