Torus Trooper

Post by ArrogantBastard »

Since the original Torus Trooper thread went under along with the main forums, I've decided to just create another one for those of you that love Torus Trooper.

Now, this shouldn't be too hard to follow the format for posting your scores. It should follow as such: [Your user name] - [Level 1 to wherever you ended] - [Your high score]

That should be simple enough to follow, I presume?

To play Torus Trooper, you must download the game from this site located here.

Normal
1. EIHoppe - 1-34 - 33,059,859
2. PapaLenin - 1-11 - 2,891,741
3. Ayanami - 1-10 - 2,524,037
4. thyseus - 1-8 - 1,734,715
5. Tar-Palantir - 1-7 - 1,594,257
6. BiQ - 1-6 - 1,218,628

Hard
1. Dale - 1-8 - 1,713.600
2. BiQ - 1-5 - 1,332,385
3. thyseus - 1-3 - 805,230
4.
5.

Extreme
1. Davey - 1-21 - 14,022,446
2. SpooN - 1-16 - 12,266,119
3. shiftace - 1-19 - 8,058,231
4. EIHoppe - 1-12 - 7,177,453
5. BiQ - 1-11 - 6,345,156
6. ArrogantBastard - 1-15 - 4,791,482
7. Sakamo - 1-12 - 4,623,593
8. _JULIUS_ - 1-8 - 2,542,724
9. thyseus - 1-2 - 619,070

Note: I will try to update the score table as much as I can, so if I don't update the score table and you see me postin' elsewhere in other forums, shoot me a PM and verbally bitch slap me so I can go and update it for your sake. ;)

Extreme - SpooN - 1-15 - 11,585,563
This is played in version 0.21 but as far as I know are there no score related changes in v0.22 so this does not matter.

Jesus, SpooN. Your scores are astounding.

Edit: I don't know what my version is for the Torus Trooper file, but I downloaded it a couple of months ago is as far as I know how old it is.

ArrogantBastard - 1-11 - 3,320,350

Damn, I suck.

I just checked for the Torus Trooper version, and it turns out that it's v0.1 which tells me that it probably needs to be updated STAT.

I am fine with v0.1 because there my score would be 15,087,530  .

.22 seems to be a bit more difficult than .1
BUT it has a reply feature, oh my god does it rock.

I posted this already in the old forum but to sum up my score system:
In the first levels (1-3 or so) go for speed, then go for speed if the torus is complete and use the bomb/break if the torus is incomplete. If you go near to enemies (without shooting) they will be thrown back and so you can build up huge masses of enemy ships and the bomb-bonus will be very high.
It needs a bit of training to decide when it's useful to wait and when not but some tips:
In curves you dodge automatically so you can mass easily.
There are some big enemies which shoot many bullets direct on you. They are the fundament of your highscore (you can get two times +15s with one bomb here).
Don't underestimate the small ships if they shoot three bullets or more they will produce also enough bonus for a good bomb.

In the later levels bomb to survive. If you don't die you will never run out of time (the bosses and the score you get from always bombing are enough).

Hope this helps.

Hm, I shall try out your tactics and see if I can attain a much better score than the one I have. Mine just looks so pitiful compared to yours. Haha.

My scores:

Normal - BiQ - 1-6 - 1 218 628
Hard - BiQ - 1-5 - 1 332 385
Extreme - BiQ - 1-11 - 6 345 156

All with 0.22 version.

For anyone who doesn't already know, the Linux version can be found here: http://www.emhsoft.net/ttrooper/ (also links to other ABA Games' linux ports) and Mac OS X ports of some ABA games here: http://shinh.skr.jp/osxbin/

EDITx7: Still better score for extreme, not posting in its own reply since the mod has not yet seen this. I guess someone should wake up the thread mod... and maybe I can't say I suck anymore that bad...

OMG I tried playing this for like 2 minutes and I'm sick as all hell now.

How can you guys do it. I've never had a problem with motion sickness from a game.

I decided to take a break from the impossible stages past 60 or so and take it from the top a couple times.

Extreme: shiftace - 1-19 - 8,058,231
"Can they really get inside my head?"
"As long as you keep an open mind."

Just redownloaded this after reformatting my linux box and had one hell of a run on Normal (while pausing constantly and trying to watch TV, no less!). v.0.22, like everyone else has been using.

Normal: EIHoppe - 1-34 - 33,059,859

I got pretty lucky on some of the bullet patterns, not to mention unusually good "random" dodging skills on my part.

Replay file here.

Hard and Extreme runs forthcoming. ;)

Ayanami - Normal - 1,250,406 - Stage 6

I have never even heard of this game and I must say after playing it last night and tonight that this game is awesome!

I definitely want to get a higher score on this bad boy, very fun. :D

Took awhile to get the damned number generators to cooperate with me.

Extreme: EIHoppe - 1-12 - 7,177,453

Replay file here.

I know I could've done much better, but there was a lot of repeated bits of complete vomit at the end that screwed me over (on a boss I could've exploited for a couple +15s, no less!).

Expect improvements soon. I *will* claim first in this yet. =P

Damn, EIHoppe. Since you seem to play active I have to also play again if i don't want to lose my first spot.
Got 10 millions today in school but then the damned second "Semester" distracted me.

Got this at a friend's party and the circumstances were quite bad. I was talking to some guys while playing and my mental state was... well... I could fly so I'm pretty proud of this run ;)

Your level is quite high, so I guess your strategy is different from mine, nice work.

Yeah, you must be getting more/higher multipliers than I am. Do you herd a lot of enemies by bumping them?

Extreme - Davey - 1-21 - 14,022,446

See the extreme luck: replay.
