Just got this in my email:
http://us.playstation.com/games-and-med ... su=6861964
Released Jan 10 2012.
I'm a huge fan of the first Choplifter on the Master System. Maybe I'll take a look at this new one, even though it seems to use a twin stick control scheme.

Re: Choplifter HD
Looks like I"d like the original better. Might one day get off my ass and try it though.

I saw this last night in the Steam daily specials. I didn't realize it was brand new though.
My Choplifter experience was on the Apple ][ version, so I'm partial to that version.

I tried the demo. Even though it plays the same as the original (and I loved that one), for some reason I didn't like this one. Can't put my finger on it but it's not as fun to play.
Re: Choplifter HD
Played the demo yesterday - it's pretty bad.
Not a big fan at the angle your chopper flys at - it was more extreme in the SMS version and had a good, diagnol bullet trajectory.
Now, instead of relying on the angle of your chopper, you have a red target laser that is controlled with the right analog - so you basically have some control of where you are shooting regardless of the chopper's angle. It sounds like a bright idea - but it's not very "Choplifter" imo.
The worst offense with this new version is the voices and sounds effects. They clearly wanted to go the comedy route - with cheesy firecracker sounds when you complete a mission, and horrible voice work. Not "so bad, it's funny" bad - it's just horrible. Constant chatter takes place from your rescued passengers, and the dialogue is just annoying.
Really disappointed with this version - the idea of new choppers sounded awesome, but they tried to be funny with this game and it just doesn't fit. It doesnt seem like you can accidentally land on the people either, because they wait for you in the background until you land.
I would have been content with a better looking port of the SMS version.

I'm just sick of fugly polys on every update. Leave my childhood alone if all you're going to do is make it look like shit.

I downloaded the demo yesterday. What an awful game!
Re: Choplifter HD
Accidentally? Um, sure, accidentally. Now that I think about it, Choplifter was probably the closest thing I had to Grand Theft Auto back then.soupbones wrote:It doesnt seem like you can accidentally land on the people either, because they wait for you in the background until you land.

Re: Choplifter HD
just picked up choplifter 3 snes for $4. cant get past the second boss. he just rains death. my big ass chopper can't get out of the way fast enough. I think you gotta get all the weapons during the mission and just save them for the boss. first boss has a safe spot in the top center of the screen so its difficulty 0 to difficulty 10.
