1945 games

Post by Spyke »

Hi all,

Can someone suggest a site where I can learn about the differences between the various different versions of 1945 games? Is Strikers the same thing? What about 194x? I'm a bit confused about this "family" of games so need to be educated. Thanks,

Ant

Psikyo made Strikers 1945, Strikers 1945 II, Strikers 1945 Plus and Strikers 1999 (aka. Strikers 1945 III).

1941, 1942, 1943, 1944: The Loop Master and 19XX - The War Against Destiny are all Capcom's games. Similar themes, of course.
No matter how good a game is, somebody will always hate it. No matter how bad a game is, somebody will always love it.

Strikers 1945 and 1999 is by Psikyo and is not directly related to CAPCOMs 19- series it borrowed some stuff like ww2 settings but other then that they are not related.

edit there is also a korean "ripoff" Strikers game called 1945k III not to be confused with Strikers 1999/1945 III

Now if I may ask on somewhat unrelated notice whats up with the hate for 19XX The War Against Destiny I liked it and consider it the best CAPCOM shooter.

1944 is only published by capcom, developed by 8ing/raizing so id say thatone is fairly on its own, it has loads of differences from capcoms 194x games too..
the destruction of everything, is the beginning of something new. your whole world is on fire, and soon, you'll be too..

Yeah - 1945k III is a weird "tribute" shmup to the Strikers series made by Oriental Soft. It's actually a great game and IIRC the scoring's very different from the Psikyo series. It's available in MAME and definitely worth trying.
Oriental Soft then went on to make the true hidden gem that is G-Stream G2020 ( the spiritual predecessor of Trizeal) and the guy from Oriental Soft later founded Triangle Service. The rest is history...

I got the Strikers 1945 I & II pack for PS2 and just want to post some thoughts. I've only played II so far and am no-where near mastering it yet, but I'm finding it very rewarding. The bullet-patterns are sufficiently complicated to be quite challenging for a relative newcomer like me, but I'm also findin that strategies can be learned without too much difficulty so it's not feeling frustrating yet. There's lots of variety in the game and I love the look and feel of it.

I never played these games in the arcades when I was younger but think that if I'd ever seen them I would have been in seventh heaven at the time!

What exact "type" do these games count as? Are they "manic"? Old school? Do they count as Bullet-Hell? Or something else entirely...

"Manic" is how I'd describe Psikyo shmups.
19XX: The War Against Destiny had some nice looking water. Up there with Gun Frontier's, Raiden's and Shienryu's water.

I really liked that one too. III is good also, but it's very tough. The patterns in 2 are great- the mixture of slow and fast shots really makes you feel like you're constantly hanging on by the skin of your teeth. It's also not too much memorization, and rewards strategy. Good stuff!

Hmm, what are the opinions on 1? Does anyone like it better than 2, or is 2 just an all around improvement?

to add a little more to your confusion I'll throw in Aero Fighters/Sonic Wings (1992) which imo is kinda the daddy of the Strikers-games
