Much better improvement on Gradius 1, autofire helps.
Gradius 1 (PSX) 213,800 1-4 Bloodreign
Windows Defender decided to rear it's ugly head at the wrong time, the emulator closed out, lost a life and was never able to recover, almost got to stage 5.

My first Gradius 2 score contribution to this thread and board.
Gradius 2 (PSX)- 182,700 (loop-stage) 1-4 Bloodreign
Crystal stage seems simpler with ripple laser and 2 way, the side effect, double is tailgun, nearly useless with the ceiling turrets, ripple covers more area here as well, but you can't reach some of those turrets even with it (missiles also don't fire fast enough to move the damned things down).
Coming soon perhaps a higher score on the Saturn version.

Gradius II (SAT) 225,500 stage 1-5 Type 4 Force Field (sorry about not adding type and shield type last time Zach)
I had a nice score on the PCECD version too, but since it's not included I won't post it (or maybe I will), the Saturn versions Moais proved to be too much, their rings overtook me.
(secret score: Gradius 2 PCE 251,300 Stage 1-5 type 4, I know this one won't be added, but hey doesn't hurt to put it out there.)

Oh yeah.
=GRADIUS - NES/FC=
LGB - 199400 - Stage 1-4
I used to have a 250K score, but it seems I haven't recorded it.

Stage 4 has always been a problem for me, once I got past that the next two stages were a breeze, but almost a 1CC, fell just short of the final boss's gates.

I think the better question is; how the ____ did you find this out?malik11 wrote:Why are the extend defaults on Gradius on Saturn different from the arcade extend defaults (via MAME)?
'Tis true, the default varies between ye olde Deluxe Pack (on Saturn as I can confirm) and default Gradius rom set in Mame.
Deluxe Pack: 30k then every 80k
Mame: 20k then every 70k
On the Deluxe Pack, at least you can change the extend settings. Easy or Level 2 in the options sets everything right while Difficult or Level 4 sets it to extend at 20k only.

I wasn't aware you owned a Sega Saturn. I would imagine SSF or Cassini requires better than a PII though. Good enough.malik11 wrote:--by seeing the Sega Saturn game run in person and owning a computer containing better than a Pentium II.

It does. But MAME doesn't.Limbrooke wrote:I would imagine SSF or Cassini requires better than a PII though. Good enough.
Then let's cease the spamming, shall we?Limbrooke wrote:There's a question that may never be answered.malik11 wrote:Why

Died at the damned Moai boss again, got overconfident, then a swarm of bullets from out of nowhere destroyed my chances of going through the stage unscathed, damned rank really kicked in, I really should learn to operate with just 3 options (though the option hunter tried taking away my options, always dodged him).

My PSX Gradius Deluxe Pack arrived a few days ago (how coincidental I get my best score on it a month after Plasmablood gets his copy), I played in a pissed off mood and got the furthest I ever have breaking my old Saturn score.
Gradius II (PSX) 292,800 stage 1-7 Type 4 Force Field
Zubs in the boss rush finally put me out of my misery, tailgun, two way missiles, and 3 options really made passing the Moai a hell of a lot easier.

Bloodreign 365,400 Gradius 2 (PSX) 1-8 type 4
Didn't notice I had beaten my previous score till I got to Tetran in the boss rush stage and he finished my last life (I went in with 4 lives, the Moai stage again is a piece of cake with tail gun and two way missiles, and at least 3 options), I got too nervous as I always do in the Boss Rush stage and having pea shooter, 2 way plus one option won't get the job done very well in stages 8 or 9.
Once my last life was lost I was like, "oh hell I just topped my previous high score, how'd I do that"? My only answer was I was in a zone for awhile.
