Cave Story+ and Treasure Adventure Game

First off, has anyone gotten Cave Story+? It released on steam semi-recently. Don't know whether the extra new modes are worth it for a free game that I already paid for to play on the wii. I do like me some cave story though.

Also found a promising little title thanks to the indiegames blog. Treasure Adventure Game. It's being billed as a mash-up of Wind Waker and SMB2, but it strikes me more like a mash up of La Mulana, Cave Story, and Zelda II with some Darkwing Duck thrown in for good measure. Pretty fun, though I haven't gotten far yet. It's still in beta but I think it's beatable in current state.

I got it. And frankly, I'm not sure, because I can barely bring myself to play through this version and unlock the new stuff.

The soundtrack is honestly downright insulting; I guess you've already heard it on the Wii, though. There's the option to revert to the old one but seriously, it's just disgraceful to put that shit as default. Taking some lovely crisp chiptune-ish music and replace it with some guy's first composition in Fruity Loops isn't nice.

The translation is... accurate, I guess? The team doing the fan translation might've taken some liberties but this just doesn't click. Everything reads like a wall of text and the characters have really lost their personalities.

The "hard" mode is utterly ridiculous. There's now easy, original and hard modes (changeable at game start only). But what they don't say is that hard just takes away life capsules and the rocket launcher while leaving the actual gameplay unchanged. I'd be okay with a simple numbers tweak (some more projectiles here and there), but offering a previously-done challenge up as a full difficulty level is just too damn lazy, especially because the ability to skip cutscenes still doesn't exist (which is kind of a must-have if you're going to offer an 1hitkill mode...).

It's not a final judgement but so far, my opinion can be best described as "Cave Story deserved better than this". The new play modes might be really nice, but seeing is believing.
