Fall 2011 MD/VA/DC Area Shmupmeet (Nov 5th)

Post by Kiken »

Well guys, it's been a couple of months, figured it was time to start discussing when to meet up again... and you know, talk shit about Radiant Silvergun. ;)

Not sure what works best for everyone... either a weekend in October or at the beginning of November (don't want to hold it later since you start hitting the holiday rush).

Way ahead of you on this one.

Early Nov is gonna work better for me. Lotta stuff happening in late Oct.

What's for food? If we want to do something real cheap we can do Tortacos, that place is great/fast/cheap. If you want a slightly farther drive (about 30 minutes) we could do Ren's Ramen, or Ray's The Classics for burgers/steaks/stuff. There's also that Peruvian places next to Sichuan I still haven't been to yet.

Looks like that Moroccan place in the Kentlands closed. Unfortunate but very expected considering I never saw anyone in there.

Did we ever eat at Dogfish? I'm actually starting to lose track of places we've been before.

Yeah, first few weeks of Oct are gonna be hairy here too it looks like. Either late Oct or pre-Thanksgiving Nov is going to work the best for me. I'll ask Daikijin what his schedule looks like next time I see him.

Not at any of the meets I've shown up for, I think we kept shooting it down for being crowded on Saturday or something?

We could probably do it with a reservation. Not sure if we want to go that route or not though.

My schedule is flexible, provided I know in advance. As for food, I'm a home cookin', meat and potatoes kinda guy =D.

You know, maybe we could mix things up a bit and have a potluck dinner. Everyone cooks a different dish and brings it for dinner. Just throwing an idea out there.

I'm cool with eating out too, but prefer on the less expensive side.

Maybe Gwyrgyn will show us his hax new high score on Garegga =).

You're not talking about Pasha, are you? I'm pretty sure I saw people in there two days ago.

For our prior meets, we ate at:
- Temari
- the apartment [subs from somewhere or other]
- Panera
- Fu Shing Cafe
- Chevy's
- the one Indian place I don't remember the name of and Google is not helping
- Sabai Sabai Simply Thai
- Sichuan Pavilion[?]
- Crisp & Juicy [Peruvian]
- Coalfire Pizza

IIRC

Kiken and I were trying out a Malaysian place at the Rio, too, though that's pretty much Indian again. Dogfish is okay but unmemorable, though I have a coupon if we go there [through 10/31, but I'm sure Valpak will send another if we do November].

Yelp claims Pasha is closed, but it's Yelp so...

I'm cool with whatever. Malaysian/Indian is fine with me if you want to do that.

I'm out of the country starting Oct 13th, get back on the 28th.

I think the first week of November is best for me. Vague recollection I have a wedding to attend on the 11th or around there. Third weekend would also work.

Looks like he's working the first 3 weekends in October but November is free and clear for him.

Well, given Friday's excursion with my folks finding TWO listed restaurants as closed, it very well might be closed by the time we shmup again :?

Going to order the Happy Non-Conformist? ;) [Hmm, coulda sworn there was some menu item like "A Simple Inquiry"]

The Jambalaya at Dogfish is really good. They had some tamales as a special once and they were also really damn good. Shame most of their menu isn't that exciting.

Like most people I'm pretty much unavailable most weekends in October. So far for November I'm only looking at the 19th being taken (for Anime USA).

Fairly indifferent on food, only Roy's Place comes to mind, and that's probably something I should just check out on my own anyway.

Also, I talked to a few of you about this already, but beyond this shmupmeet people should really look into going to MAGFest (January 5-8 at the Gaylord National Harbor). I'll probably make a separate thread for that soon after I check on the guys that usually bring candies/PCBs for it. For you local guys I'm also looking at closing a group pre-reg group ($30/person covers entry for the entire weekend) and can just take cash when we meet up in November.

Roy's Place is about a hundred [literally!] different kinds of sandwiches. If we go there, we're going to spend half the time just reading the menu =p

216, actually =p If people want to go we could always just look at the menu over the course of the afternoon and have everyone decide what they want before we actually get there (or have them deliver if we're super-lazy).

EDIT: Looks like first weekend of November is now the only weekend I'm free - apparently going on a trip the second weekend.

Crimzon Clover has a lot of similarities to Cave games like DaiOuJou and Ketsui, the sort of games that you enjoy playing, so I sort of assumed you were already good at it =P.

Blah. I asked off several weeks ago, and they still didn't schedule me off on Nov 5th. Maybe it's time to start thinking about another job -_-...

Do you work retail? It's pretty safe to assume you'll never get any of your requested time off during November and December.

EDIT: Some personal stuff just came up and I might have to pass this weekend - gonna need a day or two to see how things end up.

Alright guys, see most of you on Saturday. We got deli-swirls again. If one or two of you don't mind bringing some drinks, that'd be appreciated.

Sadly timed a few weeks before homebrew is ready and KOF13 is out. It's all good anyway though, actually been playing Crimzon Clover recently. :I

BTW did we rule out Lebanese for food? I don't know if there is anything good in the Rockville area or not, Me Jana is my go-to but that's about 40 minutes away.

Also, what about Kebobs? Any of those places like Moby Dick's or Caspian are generally really good and not too expensive.

Also Tortacos. :I

Lebanese Taverna is the nearest Lebanese place, haven't tried it.

I wish Kardo was still open. Apparently it's a Yum Burger or something now.

Well, I do still have the demo for Ougun Musou Kyoku X sitting on my 360, if you want to give that version a whirl.
