Darius Burst @ arcade in SLC Utah! Play it before its gone

Whats up fellow shmuppers! A Darius Burst cab just arrived at Valley Fair Mall in Salt Lake City.

If your in the area drop by and check it out. Its a 4 player version. It also has a wicked sound system with a powerful subwoofer.

The owner is nice guy and I'm sure he would answer any questions anybody has about the game. Lots of classics in there like a Crystal Castles cab. Also some pins.

Only 50 cents a play its a fairly good bargain play. Here are some pics of the cab that a fellow shmup player took from his cell:

Damn, what a beautiful sight. Some arcade owner out there has got good taste.
And 50 cents sounds awesome, especially when D&B or KDB would probably want $1.25 or even $2 a play.

Pretty slick to see some arcade employees uncrating a brand new Darius Burst cab in the USA. Seems like one should be for the Bay Area of CA would be cool to see happen.

Any other arcade shmup titles besides the DB cab?

Ya, there is a strikers 1945 2 cab. And a 4 slot mvs with blazing star and another shmup in there, not sure which one though.

The owner has a lot of good stuff. Shmup-wise he has Strikers 1945 II, 1942, Blazing Star, Aero Fighters 3 and obviously now a DBAC machine. Not to mention he has some other awesome stuff like Super Street Fighter IV AE, a Blazing Angels machine, D&D Tower of Doom and a Pac-Man Battle Royale amongst other games I can't remember off the top of my head.

He even has stuff as old as Asteroids Deluxe and Warlords. The guy has extreamly good taste in arcade games and I'm very happy to live in the same state as someone with a passion for arcade games like him!

He doesn't really follow the norm when it comes to arcade operators and all of his games are really well picked out, but DariusBurst AC.... That's the kicker right there!

Where would it be going?

I've honestly never had any desire to go to Salt Lake City until now; maybe plan for a trip next Summer? Unless Arcade UFO in Austin has the "cajones" to get one sooner than that...

Either way, I WILL play this game...lots!

Not sure, it could be a location test for the English translated version and it could possibly move to another location, however I've also heard from sources that it may be there to stay even after the testing is over.

Only time will tell, but anyone interested may want to make haste and play it. That's all the info I have at this time....

Out of interest, do you know if your machine has the update installed on it?

Chi is trying to find out if we can get ours in Casino (London) updated but because it's a JP cab there are a few stumbling blocks (that and trying to communicate with Taito.)

Curious to know if yours came pre-updated?

That's a really good question Skykid.

As I understand it from the arcade operator, the machine came with the original version installed, however there is a new selection in the options screen to enter special passwords that are given by Taito and are supposed to unlock certain things from the newer versions. I assume this is all pre-installed as the machine shows no signs of being connected to anything internet-wise.

So I would have to say that short of it being (EX), which I'm CERTAIN would require a full update, it's supposed to have all of the other stuff pre-set and ready to go.

It's probably just set up differently because of the fact that it's an English language version and they knew most arcade ops out here were not going to have the set-up for the machine to be connected to Taito's server constantly for updates.

Yeah, the entire game is in English and all of the artwork on the cab explaining how to play the game is also written in English. I've been told that this is one of 2, maybe 3 DBAC machines in all of the US! So, needless to say, an extreamly RARE site indeed!

Hopefully this English version of DBAC hits the numbers Taito is looking for, otherwise this may be the ONLY version we ever get....

It's hard to say how well it'll do out here with everyone so into their game consoles and not feeling a need to go out and try playing games at an arcade anymore. DBAC is an experience you have to see to understand and isn't something you can just set-up at home. DariusBurst might be on the PSP (A great shmup in it's own right) but when you see DBAC you'll quickly realise this is a different beast all together!

To answer a question on the Shmups forum about the game:

The version of the game we have is 1.05 ENG. I am not sure how that differs from where the Japanese versions are, which are up to v1.11 I think. It's common for versions to differ in numbers between territories so 1.05 here could be 1.11 there. Taito has already promised to update the game based upon feedback from the loctest here. I also think that this is the only cab in the US as I have heard no info on any other cabs here aside from one mention in a forum post that didn't sound entirely sure about it.

The hardware configuration used appears to be the exact same TypeX2 config as Super street Fighter IV Arcade Edition. It has a 250GB drive, an nVidia 7900GS card and an Intel CPU whose model is escaping me at the moment. None of the English models will have online connectivity. Also the US version differs from the UK version due to the canopy.

I've asked Taito if we'll get Unlock A or not, here's hoping that we do.
Edit: The CPU is a P4 3.0 GHZ

Don't go over though, it's broken till next week. But do then-- there's intense high score competition on the machine.
