and you can have only 1 shmup with you till end of the times (no angles like internet or ups or castaway ideas,u got 1 game only).

what is your game?

I think I'll get battle garegga,I'm terrible at this game but many ships, many secrets, medal collecting less "static" than chaining, music and nice graphics too.
(Tie with Apb and galaga I guess)

Heh, nice. Glad you didn't say Divine Sealing.

I'd probably go for DOJ.

With some lube to smooth out the scroll, surely? NEC PC-9801 wasn't great in that respect.

Zanac (MSX1 version). Wasted so much of my life on this game. Don't mind playing it for the rest of my days.

Pink Sweets 1.00 because it's been called virtually impossible on Harder/Extended difficulty (mostly the former) :P

seems like a great choice if you need motivation to kill yourself, as if being (presumably alone) on a deserted island forever wasn't enough! :(

Inception.

Oh wait-

I think I'd have to go with one of the Raiden games. Can't decide which one but it'd definitely be one of those. Not an easy choice, this thread is it? :P

Eschatos, even without JSS and CS.

In fact, it's getting to the point that when I do play an STG, this is the only one I play - and I don't even live on an island!

Right now I'd say Ketsuipachi.

It mixes scoring and survival better than DFK BL, and has an actually good TFB instead of Hibachi and Zatsuza who are kinda lame.

It would keep me occupied for sodding years, and probably is going to anyway.

Battle Garegga

I just never get bored of the game, its music and its atmosphere. And it's difficult enough and offers enough variety to hold you over for a loong time.

I can't decide between Galaga, Exzeal, and Eschatos, but it's gonna be one of those three 8)

Battle Garegga is the top choice for me. The music, atmosphere, and depth of the game mechanics combine to make a unique experience that hasn't been matched by it's sequels and pseudo sequels (IMO of course).

On top of that, as if it wasn't difficult enough, you can move on to special mode (extended and harder).

Batrider for me. I love Garegga to death but there's just more to do in Batrider, and it matches Garegga for quality on every aspect except atmosphere (ok and some of the Mahou crossover bosses feel kind of subpar).

If I were to take the approach of going with some indecipherable thing I could finally make sense of in this situation I might go with Bakraid, but I don't think I'd take that approach :P

CRIMZON CLOVER

Or Hellsinker, but that's only if I could bring a strategy guide with me.

Batrider for this reason. The first thing that comes into my head is Pink Sweets or maybe Ibara but there is so much you could do to get some variation in Batrider. Also it's less likely to drive you to real life suicide.

Trying to understand Hellsinker would be like a noble spiritual quest that you devote your life to even though you know it can't actually be done. People would visit the island to seek your wisdom.

The strategy guide is a metaphor for the vanities of modern civilisation and man's desire to understand what can't be understood, right?

Hellsinker and a copy of House of Leaves is about all you need to start a cult. I was looking at the Japanese wiki for HS, and apparently there's a whole poem hidden in the source code of The Great Majority. I have the feeling that the game is actually designed to reveal some sort of hidden truth, but damned if I can 1cc it.
