My thought process for every episode this season has been roughly "OMG BREAKING BAD WTF."
I didn't know about the break in the season until AFTER I watched the episode this morning. I'm so sad now. =(
And Walt's a dick.

Walt is definitely a dick, though I do like how this season finally explained why he was so damned obsessed with continuing the business with his "Empire Building" monologue. What interests me the most though I what happened last night. i.e. SPoilers for the uncaught up.
Walt Suddenly has a change of heart:
This part felt odd to me. Is he really out? Was he just saying that? If so, what changed his mind? Was it the shock of the cash. Walt felt like a completely different person after that scene and I'm not sure if it feels authentic or contrived. Nice that he left a gift for Jessie though.
The other big point of interest is obviously the ending. And what an ending that was. Sets up a lot fo options for the remaining 8 episodes.

I think he's genuine. I'd say he realized there's no point: he's the best, the big dog, the greatest meth cook with an international empire and there's no challenge to keeping it up anymore, since he's multiple people removed from the actual distribution. He has too much money to spend, and the way Skyler showed the money to him, he realized there might be a chance he can get the family to being semi-functional if he quits. It's basically the flipside of "I won" - there's nothing more to get.
And screw you, Vince. Screw you for your blasted cliffhangers!
END OF SPOILERS

I liked the "Figure it out!" part a lot. I've seen the ending coming for a while now and I'm really happy I was right.

He might be genuine about WANTING to get out, but he's very obviously not out. Remember the very beginning of the season when he was alone in the diner arranging his bacon into the number 52 (then the episode continued to show it being his 51st birthday) before grabbing a fucking assault rifle out of his trunk? Yeah, that doesn't seem like someone who is "out" in my eyes. =)
I'm mostly interested in seeing how things will play out with Hank at this point. Speculation is fun and all, but ultimately pointless. This show is just too good at fucking with people's expectations by lulling you with easy-to-guess predictions before slapping you with "oh holy shit" moments.

Not out, or on the run? Let's face it, there's a lot of ways the story could play out until that point. DEA manhunts, business partner's not happy he's quitting, revenge from the victims of any of his crimes. Hell even the chick he nearly poisoned could be after him. She's certainly paranoid enough, especially if the DEA start hunting him. Actually, once a DEA manhunt starts, all kinds of people could want Walt dead.CaptainRansom wrote:He might be genuine about WANTING to get out, but he's very obviously not out. That's what makes the speculation the most fun. It's great to theorize and debate and see how right or wrong you really are. I just hope the next half runs a little earlier next year, so we don't have to wait until July again.CaptainRansom wrote:I'm mostly interested in seeing how things will play out with Hank at this point. I'm not sure what Hank will do now that he has had his epiphany, but I don't see him going the straight DEA route given everything that has transpired. It's not going to be particularly good for his career when Heisenberg ends up being someone who he has been in close and constant relations with throughout the entire ordeal. Also, it's tough to say how Hank will react emotionally. He's been utterly obsessed with making this discovery, but will that immediately and totally eclipse the familial shitstorm that is going to ensue when basically any action is taken?njiska wrote:Not out, or on the run? Also, given what we know, who do you guys suppose the Denny's tank gun is for?
Re: Prepare yourselves, losers: 2012.07.15
Hank calls the people he's after "monsters". That's a pretty strong word, especially from a tough-guy like him. To find out that he's been babysitting the monster's children etc should be a hard blow for this man. I think he's gonna play along while plotting his revenge.

I guess I'm a bit late to the party, but I just spent the past few weeks watching the whole series and enjoyed it immensely, only to realize that I have to go from watching a new episode or two everyday to waiting almost a year for the last few. Drag.
While I liked the first two seasons, I felt like it went from a good series to a classic one with the Gus storyline. The acting is just insane on this show, everyone is so good. Every once in a while, I try to watch a few minutes of Japanese TV in the hopes that they will one day make something worth a damn and its jarring when compared to a show like Breaking Bad.
MAYBE A SPOILER OR TWO INCOMING:
At first I wasn't a fan of Walt's heel turn, but now that he's all but made the full transformation, I can get behind it. I know that's the point of the show, but I felt like he turned pretty sharply at the end of season 4. Gus and Mike were my favorite characters and I'm sad to see them not on the show anymore, but they had a stellar run.
