hardly.. i think theres a large gap between people getting kicks out of fighting and people being delerious with religion suicidebombing a subway...Sly Cherry Chunks wrote:Did anyone see on the news the gangs of people who went along to the G8 protests just to fight the police? I figure it's the same mentality.TGK wrote:I can never understand why there would be people who kill for no reason.
in anycase its a real tragedy that these attacks occur, and even more so that they are so misguided, these attacks are only tragedys for the innocent victims and the arabic comunity that gets the blame.

After the WTC attacks here we had a bit of trouble contacting my aunt, who lives in Manhattan, for awhile; apparently somehow they limited phone service or something like that, but after awhile we got through and she was okay. Hopefully it's the same case for your folks.Icarus wrote:My sister and her fiancee work in London, and we've been trying to contact them all day, with no luck so far. I'm worried sick
Methinks the G8 meeting is a more likely target...heck, around here a lot of New Yorkers are relieved that they didn't win the bid.People are saying it's related to the olympics.
Wrong, it's been confirmed that London will be hosting the Olympics in 2012.Elixir wrote:People are saying it's related to the olympics.
They also hit the wrong country.
My condolences to the people affected by this nonsense.
What more can I say I wouldn't be here today if the old school didn't pave the way.
My sister lives in London, so I phoned her to see if she was ok, but couldn't get through. She eventually phoned me from the hospital where she works,( one of the head nurses) to say that she was ok, but the hospital is in chaos with patients coming in.
This is far more serious that the G8 riot on Monday (which took place just 10mins away from my flat
) In the Riot they were throwing bloody flowers at the police

My thoughts and prayers go out to all British forum members. My aunt's daughter is in London; haven't heard anything from her.
The British have long been strong allies of the US; I have British ancestry, and am proud of it, and I hope they catch the cowards who do this.
I don't think this had anything to do with the upcoming G8 summit; I think the terrorists would've struck up in Scotland, where the summit is being held, if it did.

My condolences to all people who lost someone or was in anyway harmed by these cowardish attacks.
Glad to hear already of some of our English members being alive and well but I hope the others are doing fine (considering the circumstances) as well.
@ Whoever was behind this: I hope you'll get cought and will rot in hell! Noone has the right to do this to harmless people!

The major contributing factor to this terrorist attack is the fact that Britain has troops in Iraq. Spain suffered a terrorist attack last year for the same reason. Germany, France, all the countries that chose to stay out of the war; NONE of them have experienced terrorist attacks. (And I still think it's cowardly, regardless of why it happened.)
I don't blame Britain or Spain, I blame Bush for getting us all into this stupid mess in Iraq., which, IMO, had NOTHING to do with terrorism in the first place.
I'm sure that Bush will make a speach tonight, and talk about fighting terrorists in Iraq, but the only reason why they are there is because we are there. From my knowledge of Middle Eastern history, and Political Science, I can safely say that the ONLY terrorists in Iraq before we went in were Shi'ite terrorists, funded by the Shi'ite Government in Iran, to eliminate Saddam's Sunni-dominated regime.
Afghanistan was necessary, Iraq was not, IMO. How many more innocent lives will be lost before Bush realizes this?
I'm not trying to turn this into a political debate, but right now, I'm just severely pissed off at our Presidential Administration.

Both attacks on the WTC came long before we even touched Iraq. Regardless of whether Bush is at the cause of this, he hasn't forced any other countries to send in troops. Naming Bush as the cause for something this outrageous is simply displacing the blame.
There is no point in trying to blame these attacks on anyone but the ingrates who devise them, because there is no excuse for such a horrid act in the first place. Let's say Bush and Blair discovered Al Qaeda's headquarters and personally stole all their oil, money, and women, sliced off their shriveled Al Qaedan wankers in their sleep, and assassinated half of their officers. It still doesn't justify the brutal murder of innocent civilians in the name of a political/religious cause. Why take any of the blame away from the bastards that do these things? Isn't it an insult to the victims and their families when you do so?

I kinda agree with you, Dave, since this military occupation has been going on for more than it should.
HOWEVER, I think them bastards would have pulled off this shit regardless if the UK has troops there or not. According to their twisted view of religion, we are the devil just because of who we are. They would have done it anyway.

Don't hold grudges. GET EVEN.
I meant to say that too, but I kinda got carried away in my first point.Specineff wrote:HOWEVER, I think them bastards would have pulled off this shit regardless if the UK has troops there or not. It's worth mentioning that part of the reason the WTC attacks occurred is due to our policies in Afghanistan in the Reagan era: since we were so desperate to oust the Communists at the time, we marched in and chased the USSR out of the country, put the Taliban in power, and left the country a war-torn and resentful mess, perfect for fanatics like bin Laden to take root amongst a desperate populace. If I recall correctly, we were also allied with Saddam in Iraq at that time (I believe that Dick Cheney, of all people, was our ambassador to him), and even funded his weapons programs. Religion is only a tool used by the masterminds behind these attacks to recruit people; the real cause is pretty much always political.PFG 9000 wrote:Both attacks on the WTC came long before we even touched Iraq. It's absolutely true that none of this excuses those who actually plan and carry out attacks such as this, but it needs to be understood that their reasons for it, while still ill-founded, go beyond "they're a bunch of fanatic wackos." I think it was Ben Franklin who said "There is always a Cause for anger, but seldom is it a good One."
What you say is true. They hate the West and all that it stands for, and this hatred dates back to our alliance with Israel and other affairs of ours in the Middle East. They'll continue to attack us as long as we associate ourselves with any business that they see as their own.
But how does this place Bush at fault, and is it alright to use the brutal slaughter of human life for political leverage?

Whether this all stems somehow back to Bush is debatable, though it's pretty much a given that he's not the ONLY cause of what's been happening. But as for "using human slaughter for political leverage," although, as you say, it shouldn't be done, no one has done just that more than Bush himself has.

been trying to contact a friend in the UK.
Just saw him sign on...then sign off on AIM.
So at least I know he's ok now.
Phone service must be ridiculous.
So I expect that our other English members might have trouble finding an internet connection.
In any case, my condolences and sympathies go out to England.
7 freaking bombs in less than 12 hours is rather frightening.

True, and I was debating whether or not to post that myself. But most of the time when he mentions the terrorist attacks, he ties it in directly to our pursuit of terrorists, not blaming other world leaders.BulletMagnet wrote:But as for "using human slaughter for political leverage," although, as you say, it shouldn't be done, no one has done just that more than Bush himself has.
