I just registered onto the board after reading its topics for about... a week. I've just recently gotten hooked on schmups, so I thought this would be a good place to signup to.
I have a few questions I hope someone can answer.
1) I currently use Mame 32 Plus! 0.97u3. For some reason, I can't get Raiden Fighters 1, 2, or Viper Phase 1 to work on the emulator. However, Raiden Fighters Jet (and all versions of it) work perfectly fine. Can anyone explain this problem to me and how I may solve it?
2) This one is a bit off topic. When I got hooked on schmups, I also got hooked on side scrolling beat 'em ups. Does anyone know if there is a site of this sort for beat 'em ups? I really enjoy this type of game, and I was searching for a good message forum, but I found none.

1) Well, maybe you have not the rom version, some older roms dont work on newer Mames. And not all games listed in Mame can be played. Some of them are "not working". (click onto properties to see if it is)
2) Sorry, but never heard of a Website for side scrolling Beat'em Ups. Not a big fan of this genre but I have played some. Whate are your favorite Side scroller games? You play them for highscores or just for fun?

Do you have the parent ROM sets? Those are needed to play the games, and are usually larger in filesize (10MB and up). To answer question 1, RF 1, 2, and Jet should all work, as should Viper Phase 1, though RF2 tends to lock up; the ROMs need to be redumped. The '2000' version of RF2 seems to work okay, though. The sound is way off in all of them, but it's somewhat acceptable in RFJ. Hopefully the developers (primarily Nicola) will come back to the SPI games to work out the kinks, but it seems their attention is elsewhere at the moment. It's easier to double-click on the Mame icon to play a quick game of RFJ than it is to hook up the PCB. 
I'm using Mame32Plus ver 0.97. I have u1, u2, and u3, but I haven't bothered with them; None of the changes look like they'll effect any of the games I play.
