Stupid death at stage 5 boss, and lost the boss form kill gold in stage 6 form 2... other than that, pretty happy :) Stage 3 second half needs some fresh ideas.

Unfortunately the Zetsu leaderboards are quite empty, on both JP and US versions.

Comments appreciated.
You should point-blank popcorn enemies in phantom mode with the C shot to generate tons of suicide bullets, and cancel tons of normal and suicide bullets to gold with the laser. Now you're ignoring this aspect of the arcade/zetsu scoring - you'll double your current score quickly.

#4 on the leaderboards yay!

Should be able to do better, I was over 10 million behind my target score after stage 4, but maybe this will do for now.

Good shit, deexor. That is awesome.

Where are you losing the 10 mil if I may ask? Also how many lives did you end with?

The 10 million was a couple of mistakes on stage 3, and some smaller ones on stage 4. I should be able to get around 80 million on st3 and 90 on st4 with my current routes. My targets are 75-77 million after st2, 155 after st3 and 245 after st4.

I had 3 lives at the end, no laser damage. I committed suicide at stage 2 boss, as all of my routes for stages 3 and 4 are planned with the extra gauge. Another suicide at stage 5 boss; I had too much laser damage and decided to play it safe.

In a perfect run, I might be able to push it close to 390. However, it seems like learning to play stages 3 and 4 with no-miss gauge would be a better idea than chasing a perfect "easy-mode" run.

Great job man, I'll be sure to check out that replay later. Might try to give you some competition once I ease up on VF5. :P

Had two stupid deaths on this run: one before the stage 3 boss, and one during stage 5 boss' tank rush. Ideally, I would like to no miss until the final pattern of the stage 5 boss, suicide, and then finish the game with Lx4/Bx1.

edit: BTW moozooh, you forgot to update my Type 2 score. :P

A minor improvement, trying to play with no-miss now, but screwing up all the time :) Died once on stage 4.

iconoclast, I owe a lot to your 369 million replay, which you probably could see if you watched mine :) I've watched a couple of ~500 million replays, but a lot of their tricks require such impeccable timing :| Must lrn2play I guess.

Also, I still have just vague ideas on how the "kill boss during laser attack, go over 256 hits" bit is activated, and how the "phantom mode blue bubbles and rose petals cancel some bullets to gold sometimes" mechanic actually works. Can anyone explain these?

Once again, I had a stupid death on stage 3.

I can get a little over 420m if I add up all of my best training mode scores, so I hope I'll be able to take the #2 spot if I ever have a really good run. I really need to figure out what I'm missing on stage 4 as well. Everyone above me gets 102-106m, but my best is only 92m. That's a pretty big gap...

Yeah, I'm not entirely sure on how this stuff works either. I've tried lots of different things to get extra gold from the lasers, but I have no idea how to do it consistently.

The 400 million barrier is broken O_O. Amazing. I will never be able to follow you into that stratosphere.

Regarding the laser glitch, I understand how it works on a theoretical level. Basically, lasers have two states: one where they are not being touched while you are in phantom mode and one when they are being touched. The on-screen item limit of 256 is applied on a per-state basis. So by tricking the game into thinking that both states are happening at the same time, you can get twice the items to generate when destroying a boss enemy (possibly mid-sized enemies as well). Lasers themselves transform into groups of point items depending on their length AFAIK, so ideally what you want to do is be at max screen distance, touch a laser briefly and then back away, destroying the boss within a couple of frames.

It is a very iffy technique and even the Ebisen masters were not able to reproduce it reliably for every boss on the Akai Katana superplay DVD, despite understanding how to do it.

Congrats, that's an awesome score. I need to practice tighter routes to give you competition then :) I'll soon leave for my vacation in Tokyo for a couple of weeks, so that will unfortunately have to wait.

Is there a replay of the 540 million WR by any chance? Is it on the official DVD?

This is around 12-13 million behind my best training mode scores, so I think if I had an absolutely perfect run, I could take the #1 spot on the leaderboards (434m)... But I don't think I'll try to do that.

Hey Deexor, grats on the new score and it was fun meeting up yesterday. Nice find on the Phan scores too.

When we were at Ebi-sen, TAC mentioned that the art book for Akai Katana also included info on the clear bonus for the arcade version, so I looked it up.

Per life: 8 million
Per bomb: 2 million

That's official. However there's no info on how much laser damage affects the bonus. : /

Hi, thanks, yesterday was fun and Ebi-sen felt like a cool place.

Those end bonuses make sense. Phan's replay shows him getting a 50.5 million bonus:

504307320 - (445747320+2560000+2560000+2940000) = 50500000

and 5 lives + 6 bombs would be 52 million. He takes laser hits during the game (without visible damage) to fill his phantom gauge, so without checking, let's say he did it 3 times with a 0.5 million penalty for each and that's probably good enough.

There's more slowdown and it feels slower than on the port. The difference isn't that huge really, but making mistakes was harder. :)

You were worried that the game would be too easy, but you seem to be enjoying it?
