PC Engine Duo RX to Turbo Grafx-16 Compatibility
PC Engine Duo RX to Turbo Grafx-16 Compatibility
Is there a way to play Turbo Grafx games on the Duo? As a DW fan I feel like collecting Darkwing Duck for Grafx, but I want the Duo as well and they never made a Japanese version. It would feel redundant to purchase both especially in light of my more recent shenanigans. >_> Is there some kind of adapter or am I just out of luck?

There are (pricey)adapters around, but even with converting the pinouts you still have to mod Japanese systems since US games check for the console's region. This doesn't apply to Japanese HuCards on US systems.
The mod involves lifting a pin from the Hu6280 and connecting it to GND.
Following site has instructions on how to do a pinout mod if you're having a hard time (or don't want to) tracking down an adaptor: http://www.multimods.com/SlotMod1.html

Thanks, I will look into it. So long as I know it's possible this will lead to a beacon of determination.

Re: PC Engine Duo RX to Turbo Grafx-16 Compatibility
Or you could just pick up a barebones TG-16 console and play Darkwing Duck on it just for novelity's sake. The Kisado & Murai "boxy" Hu-Card convertors work just fine on the TG-16/Turbo Express/Turbo Duo without any further modification -- simple plug & play installation and you're good to go.
However, you'd have to carefully remove the Hu-Card access cover lid from a Turbo Duo console to use such an boxy Hu-Card convertor inside the cart slot though. With the Kisado one, it ain't necessary to remove said Hu-Card cover access lid (since the convertor PCB is already long enough to reach the cart slot).
You'd need access to an Turbo Booster Plus add-on component accessory if you want Hu-Card saving functionality if going the TG-16 console route or just pick up an NEC "128 Memory Base" unit + two double AA batteries and plug it into said controller port & you're good to go in that respective department (one would still need access to a reverse Duo to TG-16 controller cable adapter to pull this off if using said TG-16 D-pad or Turbo Stick joystick plugged into the Memory Base unit since it uses the smaller 9-DIN plug controller interface associated with the Turbo Duo).
Of course, you'd still have to use an Hu-Card convertor setup on a plain-vanilla "unmodded" Turbo Duo if you want to use the NEC Tennoekoe Bank Rom-Ram Hu-Card for gaming saving posterity (unless it's modded for dual country region use -- JPN & USA).
