Bit by bit over time. Dunno about Rise, but World reached the point where you could opt out of the more trivial errands - like picking herbs to make heals - via economy-manipulating base camp NPCs.

Little emperor internet mods.

I got a warning on Steam because I admonished a mod in the Baldurs Gate 3 discussion. Another person was expressing frustration with the bugs and the gaslighting moderator suggested they would get banned for complaining. I called the mod out and now I've been "warned".

Fuck.. Whatever. Support forums that try to subvert and spin support requests are a sign of a bullshit organization.

Reminds of the AtariAge Amiico fiasco with Tommy Tallerico. That site is still wearing a scarlet letter. Reddit fucked them forever. Can't delete it or hide it.

It is always delicious when things spill over to reddit and YouTube with screenshots. Mods always seem to reach an extra level of impotent red-faced fukkery when a conversation leaves their little kingdom--and they find themselves on the wrong end of a ruthless pile on for being a twat. They lose their minds when they can't control the narrative.

Sounds about right. I recall receiving similar for getting vocal about the sorry state of the SMT3 port. You know, the one they dipped in Unity and nickeldimed to death after P3/4 got loving bespoke conversions. Fucking Atlus.
Knowing the Steam forums, some shitheel probably paid a couple of bucks to tag the thread with a rosette as well.

Power and money - both guaranteed discussion-killers :P

The default scroll speed in most rhythm games is absurdly low. Konami is the actual worst about this one, I genuinely don't know what kind of psycho plays IIDX at 1x speed. I remember thinking like 19 or 20 years ago that increasing the scroll speed in DDR was cheating since it made things way easier [and I did it anyway because fuck that shit lmao, I wanted to get my body moving and not fail out for no reason].

Actually, a lot of games in general [and Konami remains the worst about this] have basic options that you should probably confirm every single time hidden behind some button input menu. I get keeping things simple, but the game is barely playable with the default settings for anyone, least of all people now starting out.
Sound Voltex at least gives you a chance to adjust the speed during the matching screen [also, that reminds me of some more extremely annoying bullshit: the older cabs don't save your preferred scroll speed to your e-amuse card, only the new Valkyrie cabs do], but if I bloody make an arcade rhythm game, I'm just putting dedicated speed up/down buttons on the cabinet.
Come check out my website, I guess. Random stuff I've worked on over the last two decades.

The fact that Phil Spencer was so proud of his 600+ hours on Vampire Survivor...probably without knowing that nearly EVERY NAME of EVERYTHING is an italian reference to religious blasphemy, sexual positions, drugs, seminal liquids, and insults to deceased relatives (of the player)

The word "banger".

I have heard this SO much lately. "It's a banger" "banger after banger".... It's getting so old.

It's definitely sticking around longer than "that was fire!".

Banger was pretty big in these parts in like 2016. Haven't heard it much post-covid. I'd say these days, I'm more likely to hear someone say that something "rips"

What drives me crazy is the way the self-checkout lines are run in grocery stores around here. There's always two rows of registers, and sometimes there are two lines, and sometimes there is one line, and there's no telling if you're supposed to be a single line or one of the two lines. And there's no signs that say "line starts here" or something so simple to do like that. Makes me nuts

"Slaps" is the one I tend to encounter. Either that or a less polite term, heh.

Rad is evergreen as far as I'm concerned!

💯 is pretty awful, though you could levy that complaint at most cases where people use emoji as a main dish instead of carefully-metered seasoning.

Youtube adverts that appear when you fast forward. I mean I just watched one and now there another. Even porn sites don't have that many. And the amount of investment ads on social media is disturbing. Even my home town of Bedford is apparently bitcoin central of the UK now. There is a Bedford bitcoin video about a guy who wants to turn Bedford's football team into Real Bedford and join in the Champions league off the back of bitcoin investment. What happens when AI on your phone can make you 32k a day you will not go to work or do anything.

It's getting pretty ridiculous. I'll put on an OST playlist and get slapped with the same mobile operator ad in between every single song. That's a worse ad-to-content ratio than television!

I swear by yt-dlp these days. Hand it a link, get a clean, ad-free video file that can be viewed in your local player of choice.
Bit more effort than just clicking a link, but at this point frontloading a bit of URL copy-paste is becoming the path of lesser resistance.

Yeah, yt-dlp for life.
Also, uBlock Origin in the browser is basically mandatory. It is literally the only reason I use Firefox on mobile, because Firefox mobile fucking blows, holy shit. It locks up and crashes all the fucking time and I have to force-quit it because it stops loading pages. If I could have real browser extensions in any other mobile browser, I'd switch.

Have a look at Kiwi Browser.

The bad news is, it's Chrome based. The good news is, it has very robust support for extensions that don't run on other mobile browsers. Although, the mobile landscape may have changed recently. Maybe other browsers have caught up, but I doubt it.

Hard to say where it rates on privacy. It is open sourced on github, if that is any consolation. https://github.com/kiwibrowser?tab=repositories

What device are you running it on? Firefox mobile is fine for me these days (a couple of years ago yeah, it was absolute horseshit), I've been using it for ages on Nokia devices - notorious for their slow and outdated CPUs. I've only occasionally had it stop loading pages this year and it's always been from quickly loading and cycling through 50+ tabs - so yeah there's probably some memory management issues going on... but what browser has even been good at optimising its memory usage?

They're slowly reducing online services .. one day all your digital PS3 games won't even be accessable. Even if they're downloaded already.

Kiwi has been my go-to browser on mobile for a while, it's pretty good.

Though Brave browser has done me well too - been too lazy to fully switch, but it's got blocking as standard, and can play videos while backgrounded. Good for using YT's mobile site to skirt the app's flagrantly artificial "playing on the lock screen is for primo customers" limitation.

There's an irony here, since PS3 PSN will let any schmoe with a browser download full digital games with no security check if they know the link  shit's been scraped and archived hundreds of times over by now.

Re: Little things that annoy the hell out of you

So this really happened to me today.

My wife is playing with my grandson in the back yard and I'm playing a game. I know that soon enough I have to drive my grandson to her mothers house.

I'm in a game and it looks like i'm about to die and wife says "Can we go now?". I say "Yeah ill be with you in a minute i'm about to die and it will be game over".

Then I miracously get out of the shit and start reaching my highest score. Every 10 seconds "are you ready yet?".. "nope, i'm doing good now, just a couple of minutes".

10 seconds later. "Look if you don't hurry up i'm going on my own and getting a taxi or the bus". "Just hold on love I'm almost done it could be any minute".

5 minutes later (More miraculous shit is happening). "Honey, you said 5 minutes ago you were nearly ready, lets goooooooo". In the end I said FFS, died on purpose because my blood was boiling anyway.

I got in the car and like an idiot I said "if it was the other way around you'd say you were going to be ready in 5 minutes, take 55 minutes" and if I moaned, would be castrated for it.

Anyway, this is episode 101 of being married as a gamer. Have a nice day.

That's absolutely how it works, married or not; personal gaming miracles only happen when you're not able to actually enjoy them. Heaven only knows how many times I've been trying to pass a certain tough spot a million times, tell whoever's waiting on me "yeah, just one more go for chuckles" and just like that I finally reach a point I've never been before and really want to keep going, but too darn bad, taunts the universe.

Sure, but being able to access it at all makes (made, I should say) security a matter of attrition, either for swashbuckling purposes, or a future archival grey zone when the content itself becomes truly unavailable.
