First date debate

Post by neorichieb1971 »

I heard on the radio yesterday that 75% of women wouldn't mind if on a first date he bought them a meal in a restaurant with a BOGOF voucher.

I've debated this theory at work and the results I got were not the same. In fact, 7/10 said they would not be impressed at all. One girl said it was great because it demonstrates the man uses his loaf when it comes to money. My woman said it was supposed to be memorable and if I used a BOGOF voucher she would only remember it for that . I can imagine the marriage 20 years later "Mom, Dad, how did you meet?" "Well we had a meal somewhere, can't remember what we ate, but your Dad paid for it with a BOGOF voucher"

So add to the debate. If you have a story to tell it would good to hear it.

Beaten to the punch, as usual.

...however, my 2 yen...

If the woman remembers a voucher on the first date and not a whimsical shag, then I would question if the magic is really there.

Date?

That implies you actually know each others names, right?

If the coupon drove the choice of restaurant, it might be unappealing; but producing a coupon at a restaurant of your date's choosing should only impress. Caveat: don't dig through your purse.

I wouldn't put much value in this survey. Women are notorious for not saying what they really mean when it comes to relationships, and their opinions about stuff like this varies greatly.

Having said that: Let her pay. Problem solved.

I don't think I ever banged any chick on a first date, unless you count talking some drunk shit to half drunk chicks in loud bars and then calling a taxi.

My current gal would probably give me a medal for using a BOGOF voucher such is her propensity for making good with money. Wish I'd known that on our first date though, I was so broke at the time I had to sell three of my Neo AES games so I could splash some cash.

I've had a good six years of shags out of it though, so no regrets.

Response bias on surveys of this sort is always more telling than the results. In actuality, you've got something like, "75% of women who responded to this survey in X Magazine/on X website (and by extension are readers/subscribers) think Y." Your workplace poll is more informative, if only because you actually know, on a day-to-day basis, the sort of gals who you're asking. You can figure, "Okay, she's kind of the yuppie type, so of course she wouldn't go for it, but that's not the sort of person I'm interested in anyway," etc.

And yeah, it's one thing to say, "Oh, I just happen to have a voucher here for this particular establishment," and quite another to base your choice of venue entirely on said coupon (or at least being super obvious about it). That said, unless you're taking her to McDonalds because you have a whole stack of "Buy 1 Value Menu Item, Get 1 Free" coupons you're aching to use, if she's focusing more on how you paid for the meal than the experience of the meal itself this may suggest something important which I can't put my finger on at this time.

Tell her you're going to the washroom. and instead of going to the washroom, go pay the bill at the counter and hope she doesn't see you there. Then you can use whatever voucher you want. I don't think I've ever gotten such a voucher for any kind of interesting date-worthy restaurant however.

I am a complete romantic failure though so don't take my advice too seriously.

I guess I should spare everyone on how I met my wife and what our first "date" was (although I doubt she'd call it that).

On the first real date with my current girlfriend, people died in front of us on the highway and she chased me around Borders with gay porn. Five years together, go figure.

In light of that I'd say a voucher is fair game.

women want financial security even the ones who are making real bank. They may be able to aford to be 'romantic' but there DNA tells them to get a provider. You could argue that people fall in love all the time but then you tend to see tens go out with tens and fives go out with fives and ones go out with ones (thats a grade system if you dont know) sure you ocasionaly get girls going out with nbumbers a lot lower than themsleves but in this day and age money is a major factor. Point im tyring to make is that first impressions count but using a voucher is going to stick in her mind for the rest of forever.

Dont do it. Unless your trying to get rid of her as quickly as possible.

Yeah could you not bring that up. I'd like to not be reminded about how Salma Hayek is cheating on me with some asshole who inherited an empire from his father.

THIS SHITPILE GETS TO PUT BABIES IN A BUNCH OF DIFFERENT SUPERMODELS. AND YOU? YOU GET THE INTERNET!

I take some small consolation in the fact I'm only interested in weird creepy girls who know who Wesley Crusher is and are willing to play/try Magic the Gathering...

So the wisdom here: if you want to put babies in random prostitutes, flash cash. If you want a relationship with an actual human being, take the pragmatic route. Just going out to eat full stop is a splurge...

It' just education and gender-specific role identities shoved down every kid's throat by society.
There's no such things as "instincts" in humans.
I'm not saying you're not right with most women looking for a provider, but the cause is different.

haaaaaaaaa. good one. good one.

I always liked the fact of rising levels of omega 6 consumption leading to increased number of homicides, and more fetuses ending up the gay

pretending women are the same as men physically and mentally (which is the same difference - the brain is there to serve the body) is silly...

If you had read some psychological works from _this_ century, i'm sure you would agree with me ;)
The first definition for "instinct" i just googled up says this:
"An inborn pattern of behavior that is characteristic of a species and is often a response to specific environmental stimuli"
I see two problems with this definition, when i try to apply it to human behavioral patterns.
First, it can't be inborn. If you'd take a newborn girl and let her grow up without any social contacts (sounds like a great idea, right? people did stuff like that already) the result's wouldn't be pretty. Despite her having no idea how to interact with other people, how would she know that she's got to bang some dude to get food and shelter? She wouldn't.
The next problem comes with "characteristic of a species", because it implies that this particular behavior holds true to every single female human in existence. I'm sure you realize that there are women on this planet that don't roll that way.
Your body can't dictate your actions.
It CAN have an influence, though. For example, some people are more likely to get addicted to drugs than others-
but that's not because their DNA has "JUNKIE" written all over it, it's because different brains tend to respond with different levels of neurotransmitters to certain stimuli.

Oh and i never said there's no difference between men and women, thank you ;)

makes it sound like some like it's some kind of super special human rainbow kind of structure, instead of a boring ancient monkey one. same crap, different species

can someone please agree with me that Flavio is a walking flesh bag and that they're also frightened he's going to come apart in the pool and they're going to have to call in a hazmat team? this is very important
