According to the Sony conference you can make any type of game with the LBP2 "build a game" kit.
I'm no good at it, but I would like to see a bunch of talented guys on here make some truly great shmup titles for it.
Anyone up for it?

LBP2 - Shmup development tool?
This industry has become 2 dimensional as it transcended into a 3D world.
Re: LBP2 - Shmup development tool?
Sounds interesting; but I'm definitely skeptical. The first one was cool; but I didn't really care for how everything was physics based and how even doing your own graphics, you were still pretty much stuck with that cute 'cut-out' look. Compare that with something like Blast Works, which was *specifically* made to make shooters... and still had enough quirks and basic things missing to irk people wanting to craft their first homebrew shmup (not that it stopped me.)
Still, these 'make you own game' things are all about pushing what you can do with them and sometimes it's much more interesting to just make them do what they're probably not supposed to vs. any other consideration. I'm eager to see what's possible with it nonetheless.

This brings back rpgmaker 95 memories...Rozyrg wrote:...these 'make you own game' things are all about pushing what you can do with them and sometimes it's much more interesting to just make them do what they're probably not supposed to...
On topic, I didn't mess around much with the first LBP because of that inability to turn of inertia and gravity. If with LBP2 Media Molecule really gives us alot more "freedom" (read ability to toggle unneeded crap and allow for custom content), then I'll surely mess around in the editor and try to set up something shmuppy.

I doubt there can be any "truly great shmup titles for it." The soft physics along with questionable hitboxes would make just about anything nigh unplable.

Yeah, this is for screwing around only. If anything you'd end up with something similar to the dreaded Euroshmup.

I was under the impression LBP2 is meant to fix those issues. it sure seemed like it from the videos I saw.

It looked pretty sloppy to me.

Judging from the videos, it looks like you can at least shoot stuff without gravity/inertia interfering with the bullets, no telling about your 'ship', though.
I just really, *really* hope you're not stuck with Sackboy again (especially for the different kinds of games you're supposed to be able to make.) Sure, he's cute and all; but that look definitely doesn't fit in with everything. It's pretty annoying to have virtually no control over what the character for your game/level looks like.... much less being stuck with a completely out-of-place bundle of raggedy brown cuteness.
