Shameless Plug for My You-tube Channel

Post by The Expanding Man »

I just completed a teaser for my new you-tube channel:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e9pbWfgK6Es

I aim to post regular shmup video reviews. I'm still working on the format, but I intend the videos to be irreverent, and pitched at the average console gamer.

I'm thinking of doing one game per episode, covering the history of the game, the various platform and arcade versions, a summary of the "hook" (the mechanic that makes this shmup different from other shmups) and a brief summary of strategies.

I'm grateful for any suggestions you may have.

I tend to prefer an informative video about game mechanics, scoring systems, bugs, different versions and ports (and which is the best one)

all info like that is great for me as itll save me the work of finding it all out by myself.

I agree. From what I've seen, shmup reviewers tend to only focus on three things: music, graphics, and difficulty (in many cases, this involves calling a game difficult just because there are lots of bullets. ). Telling people how to actually play the game and aim for high scores and such is a wonderful idea.

Also, I'd suggest not showing off the games at their hardest (such as the Mushihimesama TLB or something). While many of us find stuff like that to be fun and appealing, people new to the genre are much more likely to be intimidated and not want to even try the games.

I recommend you make it a general arcade game channel.

Make sure you're a shmup god in your video clips, or the people here will make fun of your skills.

Edit: I see you just joined less than a month ago...if you stick around then you can ignore this next bit:

Make sure you're a member of a community before spamming links in their places and attempting (probably failing) to leech members away.

No hard feelings; I wish you well, but I wonder what the point is of trying to draw random people to a Youtube channel. If you build something excellent, we'll find it.

Sorry to cause offence.

I thought I was being pretty honest by titling my thread "shameless plug..,".

No intention whatsoever to leech members away from the site - just trying to promote an amateur, non-commercial little project that some of you may be interested to see.

No problems if you wish to delete / lock this thread.

See: Sakura-Con 2010's Touhou panel. :x
I hope Fanime's main TH panel doesn't go down the same route either.

focusing on obscure, "diamond in the rough" shmups would be nice...everyone's seen the vids for the more popular shmups, I'd like to see the obscure ones that I'd like to buy but just haven't seen enough the game to make a informative decision.

My tip is to make videos interesting.. I find most stuff on youtubes to be rather boring, but then I mainly like good runs, informative or silly reviews, or something in the middle. Good Luck.

My two criteria for actually watching commentated video gaming channels is:

1) voice isn't annoying, good speaker
2) doesn't constantly talk over interesting parts of the game, good presentation

Beyond that, yeah, what everyone else said would certainly make it feel like it wasn't a waste of time to watch

Yes. I love youtube channels that dig through mame and pre-saturn era stuff. Their is also a few obscure post saturn era games worth checking out.
