Question for Exceleena Blue owner(s) (Dave_k?)

Post by dynagod »

I have located and am in the process of purchasing an Exceleena Blue cabinet but can't help but notice the dimensional specifications of the unit. It appears to be far too wide or deep to fit thru any conventional residential doorways.
So my question is this, can the fiberglass shroud be removed and reduce the width down to the sheetmetal subframe?
Thanks all!

You'd just take off the control panel assembly and carefully slide the Excellena through the doorway. It's isn't even necessary to take the door off it's frame either, saving you valuable time in the long run. (This same situation would even apply to a Taito Egret II candy cab as well since the E2's control panel is held to the metal cab frame by the use of four heavy duty threading screw/bolts tightened to factory torque specs.) Then remount the control panel back on & you're good to go.

Of course, if you have a double-door entryway or spacious garage door setup, that would be more than enough ample room to get an candy cab inside an apartment or house with ease without the need to take off the control panel assembly.

Congrats dynagod! I remember when you sold your black Egret 1 that you spent so much time customizing on the BYOAC website, you won't be disappointed with this Exceleena Blue.

Yes you can remove the blue fiberglass sides to reduce the width down to just metal frame, which is 29 and 1/2 " wide. This sides are attached by screws along the inside of the cab, you shouldn't have a problem figuring it out. Most outter door frames are 35" so you should be able to at least bring it into a house, but internal door frames with moldings are typically 29". So either you'll have to remove the molding, or as PCEFX! points out, you could additionally remove the control panel frame, slimming it down even further sideways to 28". :!: I'd suggest removing the monitor at that point to make it easier to push through the doorframe.

Good luck!

thank you much for the info!
My old apartment had 35" doors, luxurious compared to the 28"-29" doors in my present apartment. I was getting a little worried that i may be purchasing the most expensive lawn ornament in video game collecting history. :P

Dave, I'm glad that Egret made her way to a member of these forums, It's nice to keep her in the family so to speak! But oh how i miss her.
Ive got a new HD camera so look forward to another comprehensive restoration / modification thread coming to a forum near you. This time around though i need to find a better way of archiving the entire project. I had a raid failure a couple years back and lost all the photos and notes i had amassed from that entire build. I would have killed for all the information i gleaned off that project if i were a first time egret buyer all over again. Its was a real loss. I have only a couple finished pics left from my old myspace photos. I need to find a more pervasive method of marking my progress and findings this time around.

But to the meat and potatoes of the matter!
she's a ms pac/galaga dual jamma cab with a single player one button CP setup, the Namco light doesnt appear to be working, the operator door doesnt not appear to be original, and there's some superficial appearing cigarette burns in the plastic of the CP.

Despite the cigarette burn marks, its in great condition! I'm surprised the rubber bumpers are still intact around the outside top and bottom. You may need to peel those off (just glued on) to access the screws the hold on the fiberglass sides. The florescent lamp should be an easy fix, I remember having to replace something in mine as well. I see the tangs for the control panel locks are still loose inside, hopefully those won't move around to much during shipment, as you'll want to use those to lock down the panel with new locks. As for the panel controls, I think an Aero City panel (or river service repro) might be a drop in replacement. Yes the service door is not original, but looks to do the job fine. The little PCB attached to the bottom of the cab is some kind of coin slot detector (I think for anti-hacking) and also does something with the service button, you can disable it via the little jumper pins along the bottom. I'd think carefully about if you want to refinish the panel, as its a custom sparkle.

Congrats again!

Wow, I had no idea there was sparkle in there! If that's the case then i'll get a couple of progressively finer bottles of Novus plastic polish and see if i can buff everything out, ciggy burns included. this will be a straight up restoration sans the addition of a multisync monitor, and at least a peek at seeing if i can do anything to improve the rotation method.

Hah! I just found out that Exceleena that dynagod is buying is in local to me in San Jose! If you want I could take a closer look at it for you if you had any questions before it being shipped.

UD, have you ever posted any pics of your Exceleena Blue?

the seller has expressed that he has been very busy, and as such it would appear hasn't had the time to crate and palatalize the unit yet. patience is indeed a virtue it would appear

I've never met the guy, but apparently he is a respected collector on KLOV, and is selling off a lot of his collection right now, probably mostly local. Be glad he is actually going to take the time to crate/paletize it properly (which can take several hours). When I got mine, the person who shipped it simply strapped it to a plastic pallet with no padding or wrapping at all! It was a miracle nothing bumped into it breaking or scratching up the screen or sides.

Having dealt with recieving both wooden and plastic pallets + re-wrapping loads to be sent back, it is imperative that said item(s) are secured enough to that they don't topple over. If extra padding is needed for protection, then by all means do so. It ain't no fun having to pick up a toppled load because of shoddy shrinkwrapping issues.

You're extremely lucky with your Excellena cab having been shipped strapped on a plastic crate, Dave K. Some folks just don't know the proper way to re-paletize loads to be shipped (either that or they are just plain lazy since it does require extra work though).

thats great you picked this one up! I was actually considering it when he had first listed it but the price was a little out of reach for me. He is a good seller and a nice guy so Im sure the wait will be well paid off when it arrives to you in great shape!

Enjoy it!

Mine came properly wrapped and shipped from CA to AZ for $80. I have no idea how they did that.
