Good LCD monitor for TATE

Post by Domino »

Pretty much as the subject saids. Looking for:

* Low Lag
* Rotates for TATE
* HDMI and DVI is a plus I guess
* Maybe $200-$300

I have to think the long term because in the future when I get a new desktop that monitor will be the desktop's monitor. Need to get a good one.

You can pick an 3M LCD monitor stand with proper tate at your local Staples store. It will set you back at $49.99 USD but will work with any LCD widescreen or 4:3 type of monitor as long it's in the 24" and under category.

I'll think about it but I prefer if the monitor is able to do TATE off the bat.

Any idea guys?

I recommend the Dell 2209WA monitor, buy one when its on sale. By any chance are you located in Canada? PM if you are, I know of a upcoming sale for Canadians.

About the monitor:
22", e-IPS panel (TN panels for TATE aren't so great), 6ms lag (not bad for its type of panel), has VGA and DVI, 16:10 aspect ratio (1680x1050 res), comes with stand that allows it to rotate

Learn more about it here: http://accessories.dell.com/sna/product ... u=320-7825

Meh, and not all games will have clockwise tate.

Back to the drawing board. :(

the stand on most rotatable displays is VESA100 standard and detachable. Just unmount, turn, mount back on, done. Changed from clockwise to anti-clockwise.

What an interesting method for VESA mount :)

Unfortunately, Dell monitors would be out of the list, this is because of the stand it comes with (yes the monitor has the VESA holes for mounting, but the stand they provide is Dell specific I believe)

If this is the stand in question: unscrew the shown metal holder, turn it 90°, put it in again, should have the same effect.

I actually have the stand, and it does not have the screw holes from the other side, but of course if you are willing to make them yourself, then that could work.

Edit: I see what you mean now, but boy what a hassle it would be

Any opinion about this LCD? It is always in the shooting festa (2009 and 2010). 22" 16:10 LCD TV with HDMI, VGA, etc and in the price range.

It's a Samsung that's for sure.

How's H-IPS holding up? Wouldn't mind the better colors, and if it can game at least a little then that's an added bonus.

excellent. Unfortunately it does guarantee a low input lag. There's a new 23" NEC LCD with this kind of panel and a sub-1-frame delay which is quite nice.

I'm using a HP LP2275w at the moment for my MAME-ing and man this thing is a beauty; for being a S-PVA panel its reaction time is on par with faster(but uglier) TN panels and it already comes with a nice stand capable of tate and other nice orientation possibilities. Also, for a 16:10 screen there's a small number of scaling options to set like forcing input screen ratio and forcing unscaled input resolution. (obviously the latter will give you a tiny picture)
Only input lag I'm experiencing is the standard MAME one. But the highlight is the color-range - IMHO it's beautiful.

wow, the 2275w has a constant input lag of more than 3 frames (~50ms). You seem to belong to those group of people who're not really sensitive to input lag...

Wow, didn't know that. Yeah, I seriously don't notice it too much. Of course I'm comparing this to other LCDs - I would never dare to put it against a CRT. I might add that the previous panel(fujitsu) was very noticeable in the lag department, and it was a TN.

A bit more expensive ($360), but 23", IPS and max-1-frame delay: NEC EA231WMI-BK

That's a brilliant idea, Thanks :D

i've had one of these dell monitors with a rotating stand for years wishing it rotated the other way, the stand isn't quite the same as the picture but i'm going to check it when i get home to see if this is possible.

Just ordered an ASUS VH236

http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=a ... h236&num=1

based on this thread; http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=28621

EDIT: I'm very pleased so far with the exception of one issue, the viewing angle from the bottom is TERRIBLE. It's basically non-exsistant. So, when you tate this thing you have to be dead center or looking at an angle from the "top" side. Not a big deal for personal use, but this isn't the screen for meet-ups. Still, at $180 US it's a bargain.

Wait, low input lag is good right? That'd be fortunate!

There's obviously a "not" missing in the sentence. There are very good, low-lag IPS panels out there, but I've also seen IPS monitors with 3+ frames lag....

Thank you for this thread and thanks Fudoh for the heads up on the NEC EA231WMI-BK. Since you posted about it, I did some research and I just ordered via Amazon today - $340 shipped. In addition to the nice panel, love the ability to rotate with the built in stand. Can't wait to test with all my equipment.
