Why is this forum so full of elitist pricks ?

I was rather happy at first to find a shoot-em up related forum with such great scorers, but it really saddens me to see that most of them are so full of themselves, and constantly have to dishearten and discourage those who want to try to become better. And it's a shame, really.

I'm upset to hear that.. but it is clearly not true. This has to be a joke or something.

Just appears like normal human conduct to me. People like to play around. When we're represented by only text, it's easy to construe an false impression. Everyone who has been posting for a while knows the tone of posts throughout this forum's history--it's a playful tone.

I think the strong charisma of other popular forums have influenced some of the authors here.

But it really does just look like guys being guys to me.

Whiteflower if theres one thing your fucking WAY off on its the idea that people here dont encourage progression in players quite the opposite! there are many talented players here who are very happy to talk strategy and encourage improvement however what this forum lacks is people willing to practice hard to get better in the first place . Slagging off games as being " shit" because there to hard or being " not fun" because they dont understand the concept of practicing to achieve a 1cc or hi score is MUCH more common .The point of a hi score board is not to take part for the sake of it , its to see targets and gain motivation to see how much you can improve thats where the real fun is at of course if your fun is in " blowing shit up" credit feeding and staying mediocre at every shmup forever posting wank scores all day then please be my guest .

While the specific things the OP mentioned are certainly not true (I have never seen anyone discouraging others to get better) I can't possibly deny there's a lot of elitism on these boards, and perhaps a vocal minority that seems pretty prick-ish to me. But you just ignore certain people because it's the internet, I don't know why anyone would be surprised at this type of behavior. Compared to many other gaming boards I've found this to be one of the more knowledgeable and friendly ones overall, though, with fewer immature posters.

It's a specialist forum focused on an niche genre. I'd be worried if it didn't seem like it was full of elitist pricks sometimes. I don't really see people disparaged for low scores or for not being able to play PCBs. The only recent example of genuinely douchosity was the responses to that guy who bumped the hardest shooters thread with Darius Gaiden, "any Cave game" and Gradius. But even that is to be expected considering the general ignorance of the list (Darius Gaiden had 61 ALL scores during STGT).
