Viper Phase 1 (all versions)
Finally managed a 100% on stage 1&2 a couple times.
No assisted autofire (in-game default):
1,844,365 - unsane - 1-3 - MAME
Ignore the 2mill score, it's from when i was a credit-feeding noob and beat the last boss. I left the score there as incentive to beat it with 1 credit.

<Sidwell> TSS is manlier than a jet figher made of biceps.
Even the world record holder uses "un-official" autofire to gain the highest score.unsane wrote:SFKhoa wrote:Faster boss destruction.
Right, but i mean, does no one play legit anymore? It's humorous to me that a hiscore competition would use cheat settings. There's autofire in the game! *boggle* Please tell me someone agrees with me so i can sleep at night...
Think of it more like today's sprinters have better running(footwear) technology than they did many many decades ago. ; )unsane wrote:SFKhoa wrote:Even the world record holder uses "un-official" autofire to gain the highest score.
Isn't that like saying the true world record holding sprinter is one who uses steroids?
I guess i'm gonna have to take this issue to a thread of its own. Or more likely search and find a 10 page one.

I admit i'm slowly being won over in the spirit of competition, as after all, i'll never know if i'm any good compared to others if i'm competing with a handicap. Since everyone is competing on a level playing field scorewise, it doesn't matter too much.
However i think the real taint to legitimacy is in "1cc lists". For example, do you consider your VP1 ALL in STGT2k7 to be a legitimate 1cc? Y'all were basically playing the game on easymode, since it's an increased autofire rate that was never envisioned or tested for balance by the designers...
I could care less about 1ccs for majority of games (including this one) anyway. Arcadia records allow autofire for the most part (unless otherwise specified), so that's what I go with. The competition allowed autofire, I'm not going to put myself at a disadvantage. I could easily 1cc the game without it, my score would take a hit though (I wouldn't be able to get 100% as easily on certain levels unless I started practicing my tapping again). Atleast 10M I could get, I'd say. My autofire run was far from perfect anyway.unsane wrote:sikraiken wrote:Think of it more like today's sprinters have better running(footwear) technology than they did many many decades ago. ; )unsane wrote:Isn't that like saying the true world record holding sprinter is one who uses steroids?

Also, since I was playing on "easy mode", feel free to beat my score. : )

I wasn't suggesting the game is easy with enhanced autofire, i'm sure it's still a huge bitch.
It just took me a while to wrap my head around the idea of making an autofire game easier with enhanced autofire. After reading a couple more threads about it i realize it's basically a non-issue.

You have the PCB yeah? Just flip the horizontal or vertical plugs that go to your monitor from the chassis. Sometimes it's 2 x two pin plugs, or sometimes just a 4 pin plug and you use a different connection on the PCB to flip.Dragon1952 wrote:I have a Japanese region "New Version" and I need to FLIP the display but there doesn't seem to be a adjustment for that using the TEST mode. Any suggestions?
Got this game the other day on PCB, and on my first flirtation with it I managed a starter score:
spadgy - 1,536,270 - 4
I played this on PCB - Japanese new version. Now - I've been using the autofire that the PCB was set to. However, in the dip menu it's marked as 'fast-autofire'. Does that count as 'custom autofire'? If so, I might change the setting to normal autofire for chasing the 1CC.
Anyway - here's the picture.
I love this game. Might put a little more into Raiden IV before I really session VP1:NE though...

its a great game...! The custom autofire only applies if you are using some additional hardware for it, all the in-game settings are fine (high speed being the fastest). The reason for breaking it into two boards is because custom autofire could be the 30 shots a second type (no delay etc), which this game doesn't have as a choice, and that allows you to destroy enemies faster... the world record holder uses it, and personally I don't care either way.
