Can someone enlighten me on Sonic Rivals (PSP)?

I've seen both of these games around for awhile now but haven't had the motivation to play them. I've been playing through Sonic Unleashed lately and have gotten myself into a bit of a Sonic frenzy. How is Sonic Rivals 1 and 2 compared with the original Genesis games? Are there any similarities between the two at all? Is Sonic Rivals anything like the 2D stages of Unleashed?

I had Sonic Rivals very briefly when I *ahem* rented the double pack (with Genesis Collection) from Gamestop. From what I played it was absolutely horrendous. It made me return the games. Hell, my girlfriend even hated it.

waaaaay too slow. Not really engaging.

Sure Sonic Advance wasn't that speedy either, but at least it had some substance.
