I've been enjoying Gradius Rebirth and decided to try and crank up a score on the "Very Easy" setting since it has a limited number of levels. I've managed to crack 500K with some point pressing techniques (dying off and taking out some extra volcanoes in stage 1 for example). However, I look on the net leader boards and see people getting 600K, 800K, and even 1.3M !! On score attack mode I do realize that you get a free life every 70,000 points, but I can't seem to find anywhere in the game where I can get those kinds of points -- scoring in the game is relatively low as far as I've seen.
Does anyone that play this game have any suggestions on places to point press?

You can get points from looping your power meter. When you get a powerup from shield back to speed-up, you get a big point increase. I don't know how much, but it's noticable.
The 2nd boss, you can destroy the little things that fly around for points and delay killing the boss.
